Scripture reading: numb 13&14
What do we define success as?
We need to prepare more for success than we prepare for failure.
The world has it's own definition of success e.g work hard,go to school and then get a good job. The world has defined a good job as something that will give you status.
God has a different definition of success.
In the world, it is about how fast you can be successful but any necessary. It is all about reducing the time you need to get successful.
But with God, success is more about staying power. In God, it's granted that you will be successful. You can take that to the bank, God is more interested in if you can stay successful.
In the world, when you make yourself successfully you have to work hard to maintain the success. When God makes you successful, He takes it upon Himself to maintain you there and take you from glory to glory.
The minute you define your ability to make yourself successful you remove God from the picture.
They saw themselves at grasshoppers. They tested God 10 times. The Lord decided to grant them a 40 year period for every day of the 40 days they spied Canaan to live and die.
When it comes to success, there is a death in us that needs to happen.
The more favored you are, the more responsibility is put on you.
When God says something about Himself, that is who He exactly is.
When God tells us to wait for something in our lives, there is something that He intends us to get from the waiting period. It's upon you to ask and find out why God is making you to wait.
When God makes us wait for our prophetic words to come to pass, He is teaching us how to steward success. Even though things may not be changing for you positionally, there is a change happening to your condition. He is molding your character.
Things can never change for you positionally before you are changed conditionally.
God can never allow you to enter the promised land until you are changed conditionally. Something has to give when it comes to our condition.
Believing in who God is, is a choice and it has nothing to do with what He does or not do.
One of the reasons God keeps us waiting is because He wants to give us roots. One of the realities is that we either have no roots or have shallow roots. For you to be able to steward success and Glory you need to be grounded. You need to have the right roots for success and glory. It's the difference between if the success and Glory will break you or it will prosper you.
One of the thing the word of God does in our lives is it checks if you have the ability to handle it. It's active and living. It checks whether it will kill you or give you life.
Another reason for waiting is to check whether you have mastered the truth of who God is. God does not keep us waiting because He is mean or He is punishing us.
When the Lord disciplines us He is not punishing us but expressing love for us.
If you choose to disqualify yourself, that word will still come to pass. God will choose another vessel. You have to choose for yourself to believe what God has said.
3 areas that any saint will go round in their wilderness: Time, identity and character, character.
Luke 4:1-13 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition (AMPC)
1 Then Jesus, full of and controlled by the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led in [by] the [Holy] Spirit
2 For (during) forty days in the wilderness (desert), where He was tempted ([a]tried, tested exceedingly) by the devil. And He ate nothing during those days, and when they were completed, He was hungry.
3 Then the devil said to Him, If You are the Son of God, order this stone to turn into a loaf [of bread].
4 And Jesus replied to him, It is written, Man shall not live and be sustained by (on) bread alone [b]but by every word and expression of God.
5 Then the devil took Him up to a high mountain and showed Him all the kingdoms of the habitable world in a moment of time [[c]in the twinkling of an eye].
6 And he said to Him, To You I will give all this power and authority and their glory (all their magnificence, excellence, preeminence, dignity, and grace), for it has been turned over to me, and I give it to whomever I will.
7 Therefore if You will do homage to and worship me [[d]just once], it shall all be Yours.
8 And Jesus replied to him, [e]Get behind Me, Satan! It is written, You shall do homage to and worship the Lord your God, and Him only shall you serve.
9 Then he took Him to Jerusalem and set Him on [f]a gable of the temple, and said to Him, If You are the Son of God, cast Yourself down from here;
10 For it is written, He will give His angels charge over you to guard and watch over you closely and carefully;
11 And on their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.
12 And Jesus replied to him, [The Scripture] says, You shall not tempt (try, [g]test exceedingly) the Lord your God.
13 And when the devil had ended every [the complete cycle of] temptation, he [temporarily] left Him [that is, [h]stood off from Him] until another more opportune and favorable time.
A mountain is the place of encounter with the divine.
A wilderness offers an opportunity to reveal who we are and our level of faith in God.
1. The mountain of time
The importance of knowing your time and season when it comes to success. Jesus understood the time and seasons and therefore He understood that it was not His time to turn the stone into bread. In the duration of waiting, it gets to a place where in our lives stones start looking like bread.
What makes us tired of waiting is because we do not understand why God keeps us waiting. When you understand the why of the waiting, it gives you strength to wait.
Time has purpose when it comes to fulfillment of our prophetic words. God has already factored everything you need to be equipped with before the word can come to pass.
We need to stop looking at time from earth but rather from the aspect of eternity. We need to govern it.
We need to cease from shortcuts and embrace the process of ancient paths.
The other thing that people run from is their time of manifestation like Jonah. If it is time, stop running.
The other reality on the mountain of time is faith. It takes faith to wait especially when you can not see anything happening. It is when you are waiting that your faith is actually working. Faith bridges eternity with time.
You can never run away from the purpose of time. It's our understanding of time that makes us see it as an enemy.
Are you fighting time, running away from time or are you governing time?
2. The mountain of identity and inheritance.
From the second temptation, the devil is trying to get Jesus to bargain with already what is His in the spirit. Do you know what is yours? How well do you know what is yours?
Esau gave up what was his because of hunger. The lineage after him was disinherited.
What is the eternal value of what you have? Will you protect what is yours?
The reality of what you have is that you need to understand who you are before you understand what God has given you. We struggle with our prophetic words because we do not understand who we are.
It's proud of you to think that it's up to you to fulfill God's word in your life. It's also proud of you to think you can disqualify yourself from the word of God.
When the Lord tells us something, we need to say yes and ask questions later. We need to cease being the clay that contends with the potter.
Our greatest responsibility is to be in agreement and to obey God's word. We should not allow our background/ limitations to influence what God says and thinks regarding us.
Stop trading off that which God has given us to get that which we don't know we already have.
Prophetic insight + identity =Executive Ability.
3. The mountain of character.
Character is an expression of who has held your heart. There is a humility that comes with accepting that you are not infallible.
Part of allowing God to define us is allowing God to define our character. Our character will be formed all of our lives. God will define our character all of our lives.
The true test of power is the ability to withhold it.
The true test of our stewardship of success and Glory is in our ability to know what to do or not do, to know when to speak or not to speak.
May our condition and position be ready to be elevated.
