The Prelude & Object Of Giving – Part 4: Sermon By Apostle Gobanga

After his [Abram’s] return from the defeat and slaying of Chedorlaomer and the kings who were with him, the king of Sodom went out to meet him at the Valley of Shaveh, that is, the King’s Valley. Melchizedek king of Salem [later called Jerusalem] brought out bread and wine [for their nourishment]; he was the priest of God Most High, And he blessed him and said, Blessed (favored with blessings, made blissful, joyful) be Abram by God Most High, Possessor and Maker of heaven and earth, And blessed, praised, and glorified be God Most High, Who has given your foes into your hand! And [Abram] gave him a tenth of all [he had taken].

Genesis 14:17-20

Tithing is an eternal principle ordained by God not by the law of Moses but by divine revelation.

Tithing was to serve as an expression and act of worship.

Whatever God does is founded on eternal principles.

Giving according to God is a love issue. Whatever you do should be an expression of love.

Whenever we give our tithe and firstfruits, it is an incorporation of a principle act of worship. You cannot give your money/tithe without your heart.

God does not look at what you give. He looks at your heart. Our giving should be as a result of a heart position and that is determined by your mind/perspective.

Tithing came before the law. It existed as a principle. Principles do not fluctuate or cease to exist. They are eternal.

Tithing is not a donation. It is an act of devotion and worship unto God. It is an expression of relationship with the Divine.

Tithing is recovering what you lost from Adam and Eve. Adam ate his tithe when he ate from the Tree Of The Knowledge Of Good And Evil.

The problem was not in the Tree Of The Knowledge Of Good And Evil. God was looking for obedience. He ate the tithe – what belongs to God.

Tithing brings a revolution in your finances and in kind.

God has ordained that we should tithe so that we are delivered from the spirit of covetousness.

Tithing teaches you to be faithful. Tithing trains you to give and set aside for a holy purpose.

God has ordained tithing to become man’s method of giving thanks to Him. It aligns you to be God-centred.

You cannot bless God unless He blesses you. We give our tithes to support the Gospel – the ministry of redemption.

God gives His blessing to us through our salary/pocket money. But 10% is not yours. It is set apart to God, His portion to be brought to His house.

God has given to humanity 10% of His life (who He is, His attributes, nature, what He does) through His Son Jesus Christ.

Those secret things are exclusively to God. They constitute the 90%. It’s not just money. There is a certain knowledge that does not belong to you.

The secret things belong unto the Lord our God, but the things which are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all of the words of this law.

Deuteronomy 29:29

When you partake of tithe, you are trying to be like God partaking of what belongs to Him e.g. Adam and Eve falling.

There is a certain knowledge of your gifts, talents and abilities that does not belong to you. That is why we prophesy in part.

If you continue to eat your tithe & continue partaking of grace (the Tree Of Life, continue going to church, etc), you remain cursed forever.

The secret things belong to God. Tithe belongs to God. There is a reality of divine life you are to access through tithe.

When you eat tithe, you declare that you do not need God.

A person who does not tithe does not know how to use their finances or manage their resources. They have a jealous, murderous spirit.

Religious people are worse than non-believers. They have their minds fixed, hearing and knowing truth but denying the power thereof.

This is a tithing of faith unto God. Abraham was not giving it to Melchizedek. He was giving to God.

Melchizedek is a type of Christ. Melchizedek means the king who is righteous. Abraham saw the righteousness of God revealed through Christ.

Until you meet Jesus as the High Priest, you have no authority as a priest. You will be null and void as a priest.

Melchizedek offered Abraham wine & bread (communion). When you commune with the Divine, something must be offered. Abraham offered him a tenth of his spoils.

That mountain was a place of exchange. Life for life.

The offering of first fruit is tied to a blood sacrifice. The first fruit you give to God is not given through our own ability but God’s ability.

When you give tithe, you are declaring God as your sustenance.

When it comes to the principles of God, it takes obedience which results from a heart position. Not works.

The clothes of skin God made for Adam and Eve when they fell represent righteousness of God, grace & covering their nakedness (from sin).

Tithing is acknowledging the grace of God and faithfulness on your life. When you give to God first, what you have becomes blessed.

Tithing is not a law. It is a revelation.

How you show your love for God is seen in how you relate with men and the things of God.

Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah, Not according to the covenant which I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, although I was their Husband, says the Lord. But this is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel: After those days, says the Lord, I will put My law within them, and on their hearts will I write it; and I will be their God, and they will be My people.

Jeremiah 31:31-33

You do not tithe because it is a church law. You tithe because it is by faith and by revelation.

We give by faith acknowledging Christ’s vicarious work on the cross which is incomparable to our tithe. Jesus is our first fruit. Our tithe.

When you do not tithe, you are denying the righteousness of Christ. You need a personal revelation of Christ to define how you give, who you are in Him.

Tithing was a priesthood offering whereby the minister of the Gospel receives the tithe on behalf of Jesus Christ, our High Priest.
