The Name Of God – Part 1: Sermon By Apostle Gobanga

And they who know Your name [who have experience and acquaintance with Your mercy] will lean on and confidently put their trust in You, for You, Lord, have not forsaken those who seek (inquire of and for) You [on the authority of God’s Word and the right of their necessity].

Psalm 9:10 (AMP)

The grand purpose of humanity is to glorify God. The knowledge of God and knowing God personally are essential to glorifying God.

And whatever you do [no matter what it is] in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus and in [dependence upon] His Person, giving praise to God the Father through Him.

Colossians 3:17 (AMP)

Glory as is used in the New Testament means ‘doxa‘, meaning that which we accrue to Him as praise, service because of who He is and what He does.

When you are glorifying God, you are responding to that which He has made known to you. God has to reveal Himself to you.

Giving glory to God is tied to the revelation you have of God and your response to Him.

The name of the Lord stands for His person, His attributes and His character.

God inhabits eternity. God is the same forevermore. He does not fluctuate and neither does His character, person or attributes.

God has got a covenant name – Jehovah and Yahweh.

You need to understand the ways of God not His works. His ways (principles) will never change but His works may change.

The name of God is inclusive of who He is and what He has done.

The name of God refers to God Himself. It is not a title. It is His person, attributes and character. His name carries His honour.

You cannot have any fellowship with God unless your mind, heart and will are in fellowship with Him.

God the Father is the cloud of the unknowing. You cannot know Him unless He reveals Himself to you.

God the Father transcends all truth as He is the transcendental entity of truth. There is no greater reality than that which is resident in God.

The Son (Jesus Christ) is the imminent and close presence of the Father. He is the image of the invisible God.

The Holy Spirit is the breath of life. He is God that breathes life to the lifeless creation.

When we speak about God, we are speaking of His nature. It is the wholeness of Divine manifestation. It is a manifestation of his Divine character.

There is a difference between communing with God and communing in God. Communing in God is communing till you are no more.

I have been crucified with Christ [in Him I have shared His crucifixion]; it is no longer I who live, but Christ (the Messiah) lives in me; and the life I now live in the body I live by faith in (by adherence to and reliance on and complete trust in) the Son of God, Who loved me and gave Himself up for me.

Galatians 2:20 (AMP)

Communing in God will get you to a place where when you invoke the name of God, the entire triune God checks in.

You cannot worship God unless you know Him and unless you are in the Spirit. Worshipping Him should not fluctuate regardless of season situation and experience.

The name of God also carries authority and power. His attributes do not fluctuate. That’s why we cast out devils in His name.

When you do not know God’s heart and mind in a matter, you will pray amiss. God remains God no matter what He does. He is not obligated to respond to us the way we expect.

God only want us to commune, fellowship and relate with Him. He wants us to understand His person, character, attributes, power and authority.

God wants us to know Him so as to know how to appropriate His character, power and authority pertaining to the situation we are in.

God’s name should be revered above all other names.

Jesus is introduced in the New Testament as “God with us”. Jesus’ name is the name of the Father. His name carries the power, authority and fullness of the identity of the Father.

Therefore [because He stooped so low] God has highly exalted Him and has [a]freely bestowed on Him the name that is above every name, That in (at) the name of Jesus every knee should (must) bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth.

Philippians 2:9-10 (AMP)

Anything you do in Jesus’ name invokes the character of Jesus. You cannot invoke the attributes of God that you are ignorant about.

When you are invoking the name of Jesus, understand who He is and who He is representing.

When we say we’re doing anything in the name of Jesus, we are representing His character, authority & power. Be careful how you use His name.

The name of God has been separated from any use other than Holy use. The name of the Lord is a name that we are to transact with intimately.

The name of Jesus is not a title or position. It’s a function. We need to understand that the attributes of God do not contradict each other.
