The Shekinah Glory Of God: Part 1 | INFEMI Sermon Series By Bishop Gobanga

The Shekinah Glory Of God – Part 1: Sermon By Bishop Gobanga

Then the cloud covered the tabernacle of meeting, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle. And Moses was not able to enter the tabernacle of meeting, because the cloud rested above it, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle. Whenever the cloud was taken up from above the tabernacle, the children of Israel would go onward in all their journeys. But if the cloud was not taken up, then they did not journey till the day that it was taken up. For the cloud of the Lord was above the tabernacle by day, and fire was over it by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel, throughout all their journeys.

Exodus 40:34-38 (NKJV)

At the heart of a temple, any temple of God, there is the abiding presence of God. As much as God is Omnipresent, He has chosen throughout history to reveal Himself in various ways. God chooses to manifest His presence at certain locations and times according to His sovereign will.

The Hebrew root word of Shekinah is ‘Shakan’ meaning to settle, to inhabit and to dwell. It is a transliteration that denotes one or that which dwells. It describes the bright luminous light that used to appear and dwell on the mercy seat of God in the Holy of Holies in the tabernacle of God.

We cannot talk about the Shekinah glory without the presence of light.

Shekinah glory denotes the glory of the Lord or the glory of Jehovah.

The Shekinah glory is the visible representation and the majestic manifestation of the localized presence of God in which He descends to dwell with men. Whenever the invisible God makes Himself visible, it is the localization of the presence of God.

The instances in the Bible when the Shekinah glory of God was manifest were:

  1. When God was with Adam (Reference: Genesis 3)
  2. With Abraham when He made the covenant with him (Reference: Genesis 15)
  3. The Solomonic temple (Reference: 2 Chronicles 5)
  4. The Tabernacle that Moses made (Reference: Exodus 40)

When we look at the cloud and the pillar of fire of God with the children of Israel in the desert, we realize that God used to manifest Himself in the Garden of Eden.

And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden.

Genesis 3:8 (AMP)

This was a localization of the presence of God for Him to commune with them.

This glory was imparted on Adam and Eve and made them not feel ashamed of their nakedness. They were clothed with the glory of God.

When glory comes, you are perfected and there is no shame. The glory of God removes shame and you will not intimidated by your weakness.

There is no perfection without the glory of God

Wherever the Shekinah glory is, there is an activation of a relationship between God and humanity in an intimate way.

There is more intimacy and benefits from God. The glory of God is the summation of all processes and seals the prophetic purpose for what He has for you as a believer.

When the glory of God becomes manifests, everything else comes to a standstill.

The primary purpose of the temple was to house the Shekinah glory among men.

The Church is the temple of the living God, the abode of the glory of God to house the Glory of God. The Church does not exist to multiply numerically or for people to see our gifts, talents and abilities, to entertain people or please people. The Church is not there to show anything short of the glory of God.

The Church is ordained to be a witness of Christ to the world. The Church is to prepare the world for the second coming of Christ.

When the Almighty overshadows you, the thing that is conceived in your spirit is Divine. God wants to be enthroned in your heart. He wants to overshadow you. When you are overshadowed you conceive a holy thing. We as a Church are supposed to be the temple of the Holy Spirit. God wants to abide inside of you and to be enthroned in your heart, to reign through you, to take over your life and to overshadow you.

Then the angel said to her, The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you [like a shining cloud]; and so the holy (pure, sinless) Thing (Offspring) which shall be born of you will be called the Son of God.

Luke 1:35 (AMP)

God desires to have His manifest presence to be localized in you.

Unless the glory of God inhabits the temple, that temple is a dead architectural edifice. If God’s glory does not abide or inhabit a congregation, whatsoever we have is an architectural edifice. It is the people who have been called out of the world, that make up the temple of God and not the building.

God does not transact business with buildings, but with people. God is interested in you and me, not a building or what you do for Him. He is more interested with the transaction that we have with Him at personal level. He is concerned about your life as a believer at personal level much more than the programs and systems you have as a church. Many times in scripture, God disrupted things to prove that He is sovereign.

God does not dwell in a humanistic system or human ideology or human culture. God is above culture.

Nowadays, church services have become more man-centered than Christ-centered. If whatever we do as a Church does not center on Christ, then we are wasting time. Because Jesus Christ is the manifestation of the True and Living God.

We as the church are caught up with who is for us and against us and have forgotten God. God does not move the way He used to today because the church is focused on division by denomination, partisan politics etc. God will never side with you or anyone because He created everyone. He will side with Himself.

When Joshua was by Jericho, he looked up, and behold, a Man stood near him with His drawn sword in His hand. And Joshua went to Him and said to Him, Are you for us or for our adversaries? And He said, No [neither], but as Prince of the Lord’s host have I now come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth and worshiped, and said to Him, What says my Lord to His servant?

Joshua 5:13-14 (AMP)

God has always been there, His glory has always been present, even before the beginning of the world.

In the beginning [before all time] was the Word (Christ), and the Word was with God, and the Word was God Himself. He was present originally with God. All things were made and came into existence through Him; and without Him was not even one thing made that has come into being.

1 John 1:1-3 (AMP)

There is a temple that is Divine, one not made by human hands. Anything made by man cannot glorify God. The temple that is of interest to God is that of the Body of Jesus Christ. The temple that God was interested in was Christ Himself.

Jesus answered them, Destroy (undo) this temple, and in three days I will raise it up again. Then the Jews replied, It took forty-six years to build this temple (sanctuary), and will You raise it up in three days? But He had spoken of the temple which was His body. When therefore He had risen from the dead, His disciples remembered that He said this. And so they believed and trusted and relied on the Scripture and the word (message) Jesus had spoken.

John 2:19-22 (AMP)

Anything that is made of man can never glorify God. Only that which God makes or has made can bring Him glory.

Anytime that the Shekinah glory departed the temple, it meant there were going to be grave consequences, pandemonium and that the people become vulnerable to attacks. Demonic attacks, etc. The departure of the Shekinah glory was a display of God’s displeasure with the people He previously dwelt among.

Now his daughter-in-law, Phinehas’ wife, was with child, about to be delivered. And when she heard that the ark of God was captured and that her father-in-law and her husband were dead, she bowed herself and gave birth, for her pains came upon her. And about the time of her death the women attending her said to her, Fear not, for you have borne a son. But she did not answer or notice. And she named the child Ichabod, saying, The glory is departed from Israel!—because the ark of God had been captured and because of her father-in-law and her husband. She said, The glory is gone from Israel, for the ark of God has been taken.

1 Samuel 4:19-22 (AMP)

Even looking at churches today, the glory of God departed a long time ago. The Church, the Body of Christ has become very dogmatic. Understand that the religion does not take you to Heaven. The Person of Jesus Christ is the One Who takes you to Heaven.

You must pattern your life according to that which He has made known to you.

The Pillar Of Fire by night and the Pillar Of Cloud by day was the Shekinah glory manifest. It was the dwelling place of the pre-incarnate Christ before He became Christ.

Jesus is the Shekinah incarnate, the manifestation of the glory of God. He bore the glory of God and is the fullness of the glory of God, only as one begotten of the Father.

And the Word (Christ) became flesh (human, incarnate) and tabernacled (fixed His tent of flesh, lived awhile) among us; and we [actually] saw His glory (His honor, His majesty), such glory as an only begotten son receives from his father, full of grace (favor, loving-kindness) and truth.

John 1:14 (AMP)

Christ is the visible representation of the Shekinah glory. It was the joy of the Father for the fullness of God to dwell in Jesus Christ in bodily form. Jesus Christ is the Lord of Glory and not a lord of glory for there is none other. He is the brightness of God.

The fullness of the glory of the Godhead resides in Christ. Jesus is the Lord of glory.

For in Him the whole fullness of Deity (the Godhead) continues to dwell in bodily form [giving complete expression of the divine nature].

Colossians 2:9 (AMP)

You cannot see God and live. That is why in the Old Testament, God manifested Himself through the pre-incarnate Christ. Because no one can see the invisible God and live, Christ is then the localized manifestation of the glory of God. God veils Himself in the form of a cloud to preserve our flesh because we cannot behold His perfect glory and live.

Even though the children of Israel, had the experiences of the physical manifestations of God in the wilderness, they fell short of mixing these experiences with faith. The Israelites walked in doubt and unbelief. Consider then that we are luckier than them. Then this must mean that there is something more than just experiences. There is something more than seeing. You need to believe. For you can have experiences but fall short of the reality therein; the truth. There is something more than visibility that God wants us to see.

Then He said to Thomas, Reach out your finger here, and see My hands; and put out your hand and place [it] in My side. Do not be faithless and incredulous, but [stop your unbelief and] believe! Thomas answered Him, My Lord and my God! Jesus said to him, Because you have seen Me, Thomas, do you now believe (trust, have faith)? Blessed and happy and to be envied are those who have never seen Me and yet have believed and adhered to and trusted and relied on Me.

John 20:27-29 (AMP)

Therefore, while the promise of entering His rest still holds and is offered [today], let us be afraid [to distrust it], lest any of you should think he has come too late and has come short of [reaching] it. For indeed we have had the glad tidings [Gospel of God] proclaimed to us just as truly as they [the Israelites of old did when the good news of deliverance from bondage came to them]; but the message they heard did not benefit them, because it was not mixed with faith (with the leaning of the entire personality on God in absolute trust and confidence in His power, wisdom, and goodness) by those who heard it; neither were they united in faith with the ones [Joshua and Caleb] who heard (did believe).

Hebrews 4:1-2 (AMP)

The cloud and the fire are just appearances because fire and cloud cannot convey the true appearance of God who is spirit. God cannot be perceived by human senses.

God wants us to understand that there is a certain glory that may not be made manifest to the physical ears, sense, but it is to be perceived. It is perceived by those whose spiritual sense is keener than their physical sense. Spiritual things are spiritually discerned.

But the natural, nonspiritual man does not accept or welcome or admit into his heart the gifts and teachings and revelations of the Spirit of God, for they are folly (meaningless nonsense) to him; and he is incapable of knowing them [of progressively recognizing, understanding, and becoming better acquainted with them] because they are spiritually discerned and estimated and appreciated.

1 Corinthians 2:14 (AMP)

God wants us to move beyond physical visibility and into the place where we perceive. We need to graduate to a higher level. A place where your spirit man is fine tuned to the things of God.

There is a glory that is perceived, known and heard and not seen by the physical eyes. It needs people with keen spiritual senses.

In the olden times, the High priest is the only one who saw the glory of God, once a year during the atonement sacrifice. But in Christ Jesus, we are all high priests.

Salvation changes your position while through sanctification, Jesus begins to deal with the condition of your heart. This is because the glory of God cannot abide where there is sin. People who love God do not walk in sin.

The Shekinah glory is light that is uncreated. You cannot fake it. The sons of Aaron tried to start a strange fire and died.

And Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, each took his censer and put fire in it, and put incense on it, and offered strange and unholy fire before the Lord, as He had not commanded them. And there came forth fire from before the Lord and killed them, and they died before the Lord.

Leviticus 10:1-2 (AMP)

Therefore, we need to be careful of the kind of fires that we start in Church. We cannot start God’s fire in us. He is the one to start it and it is to burn and not be extinguished. The Spirit of God’s fire should continually burn in your heart. Only the fire of God must dwell continually in the temple of our lives.

Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.

Matthew 5:8 (NKJV)

Those that will be able to see the eternal Father, will see Him in Christ because you cannot see the eternal Father and live. You can only see the Father in Christ Jesus, for He is Christ, and Jesus in Him. You can only see the Eternal Father while in Christ Jesus. God speaks to us through Christ

No man has ever seen God at any time; the only unique Son, or the only begotten God, Who is in the bosom [in the intimate presence] of the Father, He has declared Him [He has revealed Him and brought Him out where He can be seen; He has interpreted Him and He has made Him known]

John 1:18 (AMP)

There are some things that you can only be able to perceive with your mind – where you see and understand what you see. This needs our mind renewed and therefore God wants you to have a renewed mind so that the truth of the Word of God finds expression in you.

God wants us to come to the place where we are able to perceive the various attributes of His Nature via the experiences that He ushers us into. We need a new mind to perceive the realities of Christ and His attributes

Our God is no longer speaking through Moses – the law, or the prophets. He is speaking to us now, through Christ Jesus.

For everything that is written in the law and was spoken of by the prophets of old, is all summed up in Christ Jesus. At the mount of transfiguration Christ was showing the disciples that all things are summed up in Him.

[He planned] for the maturity of the times and the climax of the ages to unify all things and head them up and consummate them in Christ, [both] things in heaven and things on the earth.

Ephesians 1:10 (AMP)

The Church is built upon the foundation of the apostles and the prophets with Jesus as the chief cornerstone. The reason why the Church has no glory is because God departed and the Church has forsaken the foundational things and the cornerstone Christ.

Therefore you are no longer outsiders (exiles, migrants, and aliens, excluded from the rights of citizens), but you now share citizenship with the saints (God’s own people, consecrated and set apart for Himself); and you belong to God’s [own] household. You are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets with Christ Jesus Himself the chief Cornerstone. In Him the whole structure is joined (bound, welded) together harmoniously, and it continues to rise (grow, increase) into a holy temple in the Lord [a sanctuary dedicated, consecrated, and sacred to the presence of the Lord].

 Ephesians 2:19-21 (AMP)

The temple was made so that God could transact business with man. The Shekinah glory in the temple that was just a type. But Jesus is the substance.

The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints,

Ephesians 1:18 (NKJV)

Paul speaking through the book of  he extorts us to see through the eyes of our hearts, the eyes of your understanding so that we may become acquainted with the hope of glory to which God the Father has called us to in Christ Jesus. There are riches loaded with glory and are hidden in Christ Jesus the Hope of glory. Outside of Christ there is no hope of glory. Any other thing that we do outside of Christ in the name of glory is a nullity.

To whom God was pleased to make known how great for the Gentiles are the riches of the glory of this mystery, which is Christ within and among you, the Hope of [realizing the] glory

Colossians 1:27 (AMP)

God wants us to come to the place of understanding that His Glory affords us power and protection especially in those perilous times as a child of God. God wants us to understand that His glory upon us provides protection and power.

God’s glory is particular about your morals much more than manifestations. We have to be consecrated to move in the glory of God. If you are not consecrated of God you cannot move in the glory of God. You cannot have a relationship with God unless you are morally upright.

The glory of God is loaded with a multifaceted aspect of morals. Glory of God has a capacity for moral perfection. We cannot be perfect on our own.

We can only see the glory of Christ with one eye and that is the eye of the spirit. We are to move beyond visibility to see the glory of God. The eye of faith causes us to see the glory of Christ. The eye is discerned by a renewed spirit. God wants us to move beyond physical visibility and perceive His glory. You need to transcend to a place where you commune with the Divine.

Have we been able to discern the Father in our lives through the person of Christ?

If you want to move with God, you must be able to perceive with the eyes of faith. Your spirit needs to be renewed.

We have the privilege of seeing the glory of God because the veil was torn and we are now priests. There will be no visible cloud, but we now perceive.

Therefore, brethren, since we have full freedom and confidence to enter into the [Holy of] Holies [by the power and virtue] in the blood of Jesus, by this fresh (new) and living way which He initiated and dedicated and opened for us through the separating curtain (veil of the Holy of Holies), that is, through His flesh, and since we have [such] a great and wonderful and noble Priest [Who rules] over the house of God, let us all come forward and draw near with true (honest and sincere) hearts in unqualified assurance and absolute conviction engendered by faith (by that leaning of the entire human personality on God in absolute trust and confidence in His power, wisdom, and goodness), having our hearts sprinkled and purified from a guilty (evil) conscience and our bodies cleansed with pure water.

Hebrews 10:19-22 (AMP)

Even with the architectural template that David and Solomon had for the temple, they knew that there was nothing that they could build that could house the presence of God.

God wants us to graduate from the physical (experience) to where you are able to perceive the Divine mysteries of His attributes wrapped up in the experiences that He gives you.

The bright cloud that overshadowed Jesus at the mount of transfiguration is the same reality that speaks of God Himself. God does not change. Jesus is superior to Moses, to the patriarchs. All these men spoke of Him.

We have the privilege of perceiving the presence of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

For God Who said, Let light shine out of darkness, has shone in our hearts so as [to beam forth] the Light for the illumination of the knowledge of the majesty and glory of God [as it is manifest in the Person and is revealed] in the face of Jesus Christ (the Messiah).

2 Corinthians 4:6 (AMP)

Perceiving Christ is not physical. It is an inside job that fine tunes your spiritual man. God addresses your condition through sanctification. There is a place of walking with God and serving Him that will need you to be consecrated and sanctified. To be consecrated you must be sanctified.

When you are in Christ, the same Shekinah glory should reside in you from the moment when you are born again.

And you are in Him, made full and having come to fullness of life [in Christ you too are filled with the Godhead—Father, Son and Holy Spirit—and reach full spiritual stature]. And He is the Head of all rule and authority [of every angelic principality and power].

Colossians 2:10 (AMP)
