The Tabernacle: Part 5 | INFEMI Sermon Series By Bishop Gobanga

The Tabernacle – Part 5: Sermon By Bishop Gobanga

Then the cloud covered the tabernacle of meeting, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle. And Moses was not able to enter the tabernacle of meeting, because the cloud rested above it, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle. Whenever the cloud was taken up from above the tabernacle, the children of Israel would go onward in all their journeys. But if the cloud was not taken up, then they did not journey till the day that it was taken up. For the cloud of the Lord was above the tabernacle by day, and fire was over it by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel, throughout all their journeys.

Exodus 40:34-38 (NKJV)

You also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

1 Peter 2:5 (NKJV)

Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?

1 Corinthians 3:16 (NKJV)

And the Lord said to Moses, Speak to the Israelites, that they take for Me an offering. From every man who gives it willingly and ungrudgingly with his heart you shall take My offering. This is the offering you shall receive from them: gold, silver, and bronze, Blue, purple, and scarlet [stuff] and fine twined linen and goats’ hair, Rams’ skins tanned red, goatskins, dolphin or porpoise skins, acacia wood, Oil for the light, spices for anointing oil and for sweet incense, Onyx stones, and stones for setting in the ephod and in the breastplate. Let them make Me a sanctuary, that I may dwell among them. And you shall make it according to all that I show you, the pattern of the Tabernacle or dwelling and the pattern of all the furniture of it.

Exodus 25:1-9 (AMP)

The Holy Of Holies

God created us with three faculties: Spirit, Soul and Body.

The New Testament dispensation is one of the move of the Holy Spirit where He indwells every believer.

The study of the Tabernacle enables us to know how to approach God in His holiness. Furthermore, the study should enable us to know how we approach at the place of His presence.

The soul is further divided into 3 subcomponents: mind, will & emotions.

The soul was ordained so as to put into action our desires and impetus of the Holy Spirit into full obedience of Christ. Moreover, it enables us to be in concordance with the Holy Spirit and hear what God requires of us. It is where we become one with the Spirit.

If we live by the [Holy] Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit. [If by the Holy Spirit we have our life in God, let us go forward walking in line, our conduct controlled by the Spirit.]

Galatians 5:25

The mind decodes the transmissions of the Holy Spirit to man. The message of truth illuminates the mind of the person that receives it.

The emotional capacity of man resonates with that of God. The Will of man then acts in concord with that which is transmitted to man by God via the Spirit.

The Holy Place:

The Outer Court – symbolizes the way man approaches God via salvation and depicts Jesus Christ as the way.

The Holy Place is a place of fellowship. It symbolizes a time when you begin to grow in your Christian walk. Moreover, you are made to understand that Jesus is the truth.

The furniture in the Holy Place contained:

  1. The Table of Showbread: It had twelve loaves which symbolized the 12 tribes of Israel; the embodiment of the promise of God as well as the Word of God. The bread depicts Jesus as the bread of life. We need to receive fresh revelation from God every day.We need to know what is the word of hour and word of season. You can’t live in the words of the old season when the season has changed.
  2. The Altar of Incense: Incense was burnt in morning and evening. The burning of incense demonstrates one’s prayer life which is part and parcel of your walk with God. It is the place where Jesus ministers in the heavenly sanctuary.
  3. The Candlestick – It represented the light of truth that comes to us in relationship with the Lord Jesus who is the Light of the world.
  4. The Oil– It symbolizes the Holy Spirit. We need to be spirit filled and led everyday. The oil that feeds the candlestick is the work of the Holy Spirit living inside of you.

The Holy Place symbolizes entering into a period of sanctification. You can’t be consecrated unless you are sanctified. This happens when the Holy Spirit detaches you from the world to be a consecrated saint. The more you are sanctified, the more you become enhanced to hear the voice of the Lord – the perfect will of God. Sanctification is not only for the clergy but for the saints too, but the majority resist the move of God and so move in the soulish realm of the permissive will.

Your entire soul and personality needs to be sync with the totality of God’s word. God does not want us to have an outer court experience, or inner court experience. He wants us to have the experience of the Most Holy Place.

Holy of Holies (Most Holy Place)/ The Inner Room

The Ark of Covenant was kept together with the Mercy Seat in the Holy of Holies. The High Priest entered the Holy of Holies once a year on the Day of Atonement [Yom Kippur]. Blood was sprinkled on the Mercy Seat on behalf of the entire nation of Israel. The Holy of Holies was a lid on top of the Ark of the Covenant. The Holy of Holies was separated by a fabric(veil).

And you shall put the mercy seat on the ark of the Testimony in the Most Holy Place.

 Exodus 26:34

The Lord said to Moses, Tell Aaron your brother he must not come at all times into the Holy of Holies within the veil before the mercy seat upon the ark, lest he die; for I will appear in the cloud on the mercy seat.

Leviticus 16:2

He made the Most Holy Place, its length equaling the breadth of the house, twenty cubits, and its breadth twenty cubits; he overlaid it with 600 talents of fine gold.

2 Chronicles 3:8

And in the Most Holy Place he made two cherubim of image work, and they were overlaid with gold. And the wings of the cherubim [combined] extended twenty cubits: one wing of one cherub was five cubits, reaching to the wall of the house, and its other wing of five cubits touched the other cherub’s wing. And of the other cherub one wing of five cubits touched the wall of the house, and the other wing, also five cubits, joined the wing of the first cherub. The wings of these cherubim extended twenty cubits; the cherubim stood on their feet, their faces toward the Holy Place.

2 Chronicles 3:10-13

The Mercy Seat was called a Sanctuary. It is more than a place; it’s a dimension in the Spirit that not just anybody enters.

Characteristics Of Christians:

A Christian is religious, belongs to a denomination and has head knowledge.

A Christian is associated with people of the way but are not of the way, go to church to appease their conscience not because they care for God but to appease God and are afraid of the wrath of God.

Christian was a derogatory term used for the people in Antioch.

Characteristics Of Believers:

A believer is more than just a mere Christian.

A believer lives a consistent life and has the life of Christ that flows through them.

A believer is one who has encountered Christ; beyond His Saviourhood but has embraced the Lordship of Christ as well.

The Holy of Holies is a place where one has direct access as a believer. The theme of this year is “Ascending the mountain of God’s presence”.

Spiritual ascent into the Mountain of the Lord is not easy. It is a reserve of the saints. The presence of God here is essential to your life.

Lord, who shall dwell [temporarily] in Your tabernacle? Who shall dwell [permanently] on Your holy hill? He who walks and lives uprightly and blamelessly, who works rightness and justice and speaks and thinks the truth in his heart, He who does not slander with his tongue, nor does evil to his friend, nor takes up a reproach against his neighbor; In whose eyes a vile person is despised, but he who honors those who fear the Lord (who revere and worship Him); who swears to his own hurt and does not change; [He who] does not put out his money for interest [to one of his own people] and who will not take a bribe against the innocent. He who does these things shall never be moved.

Psalm 15:1-5

O send out Your light and Your truth, let them lead me; let them bring me to Your holy hill and to Your dwelling. Then will I go to the altar of God, to God, my exceeding joy; yes, with the lyre will I praise You, O God, my God!

Psalm 43:3-4

The Holy Place experience is where the presence of God is not only present but essential. You have a divine embrace of the power and presence of God in your life. The supernatural becomes a lifestyle. You have no defeat but victory in the Lord!

The Holy Place experience occurs when you meet other of your kind (brethren) and there is an intercourse, an exchange of the divine nature. If you are a son of Abraham how come we persecute God? Is the God of INFEMI your God? If He is, why do you not act like the nature God has put in Infemi?

And above all these [put on] love and enfold yourselves with the bond of perfectness [which binds everything together completely in ideal harmony]. And let the peace (soul harmony which comes) from Christ rule (act as umpire continually) in your hearts [deciding and settling with finality all questions that arise in your minds, in that peaceful state] to which as [members of Christ’s] one body you were also called [to live]. And be thankful (appreciative), [giving praise to God always]. Let the word [spoken by] Christ (the Messiah) have its home [in your hearts and minds] and dwell in you in [all its] richness, as you teach and admonish and train one another in all insight and intelligence and wisdom [in spiritual things, and as you sing] psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, making melody to God with [His] grace in your hearts. And whatever you do [no matter what it is] in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus and in [dependence upon] His Person, giving praise to God the Father through Him.

Colossians 3:14-17

Most people cannot experience the presence of God because they are worldly.

You [are like] unfaithful wives [having illicit love affairs with the world and breaking your marriage vow to God]! Do you not know that being the world’s friend is being God’s enemy? So whoever chooses to be a friend of the world takes his stand as an enemy of God.

James 4:4

I appeal to you therefore, brethren, and beg of you in view of [all] the mercies of God, to make a decisive dedication of your bodies [presenting all your members and faculties] as a living sacrifice, holy (devoted, consecrated) and well pleasing to God, which is your reasonable (rational, intelligent) service and spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world (this age), [fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs], but be transformed (changed) by the [entire] renewal of your mind [by its new ideals and its new attitude], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God, even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His sight for you].

Romans 12:1-2

Blessed (happy, fortunate, prosperous, and enviable) is the man who walks and lives not in the counsel of the ungodly [following their advice, their plans and purposes], nor stands [submissive and inactive] in the path where sinners walk, nor sits down [to relax and rest] where the scornful [and the mockers] gather. But his delight and desire are in the law of the Lord, and on His law (the precepts, the instructions, the teachings of God) he habitually meditates (ponders and studies) by day and by night. And he shall be like a tree firmly planted [and tended] by the streams of water, ready to bring forth its fruit in its season; its leaf also shall not fade or wither; and everything he does shall prosper [and come to maturity].

Psalm 1:1-3

You can’t be in God’s presence and remain the same. When you walk in God’s presence, you are fruitful.

The Holy of Holies is symbolic of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit in you. The baptism of the Holy Spirit gives you capacity to handle the presence of God. The presence of God is diabolic in that it can take out people with ulterior motives. [cf: Ananias and Sapphira.]

The presence of God is terrible.

If you say in your [minds and] hearts, These nations are greater than we are; how can we dispossess them? You shall not be afraid of them, but remember [earnestly] what the Lord your God did to Pharaoh and to all Egypt,The great trials which your eyes saw, the signs, the wonders, the mighty hand and the outstretched arm by which the Lord your God brought you out. So shall the Lord your God do to all the people of whom you are afraid. Moreover, the Lord your God will send the hornet among them until those who are left and hide themselves from you are destroyed. You shall not dread them, for the Lord your God is among you, a mighty and terrible God. And the Lord your God will clear out those nations before you, little by little; you may not consume them quickly, lest the beasts of the field increase among you. But the Lord your God will give them over to you and will confuse them with a mighty panic until they are destroyed. And He will give their kings into your hand, and you shall make their name perish from under the heavens; there shall no man be able to stand before you, until you have destroyed them.

Deuteronomy 7:17-24

Characteristics of the Holy of Holies:

It is a place of constant activity whereby there is a deepening relationship with God. The indwelling of the Holy Spirit takes the place of all manner of human activity.

The early Church in the book of Acts (formerly known as the Acts of the Holy Spirit) whereby the Holy Spirit was the superintendent of the Church. He reveals Christ in us.

It is the place where one has divine embrace with God that is permanent.

It is a place where you experience the supernatural and where you experience victory.

It is a place of seeing challenges as an opportunity to experience the supernatural.

The Holy of Holies is a place where we have the indwelling presence of the Spirit. The glory of God is present and it cannot be faked.

The Holy of Holies is a place where there is displacing of human activity. Every human program ceases when the Spirit checks in. Every agenda gets deprogrammed.

In the Holy of Holies is a place of higher discernment, revelation and manifestation of Christ.

And such as violate the covenant he shall pervert and seduce with flatteries, but the people who know their God shall prove themselves strong and shall stand firm and do exploits [for God].

Daniel 11:32

For [even the whole] creation (all nature) waits expectantly and longs earnestly for God’s sons to be made known [waits for the revealing, the disclosing of their sonship].

Romans 8:19

The Holy of Holies is a place of receiving impartation to know when God is speaking and not speaking.

The Holy of Holies is a place of dialogue and not monologue. A dialogue is where God speaks and one responds in addition to Him sharing His mysteries with one. The Lord wants us to be partakers of God’s mysteries. It is not a place of petition.

The Holy of Holies is a place of education and where you eat solid food i.e. being cultured to discern what’s good and evil. It is a place when we know that we are meant to be in certain places or not.

The Holy of Holies is a place where God is our lover, friend and confidant. Like Abraham, how much do you trust God? Do you trust people more? The best partner is Christ.

And the Lord spoke to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. Moses returned to the camp, but his minister Joshua son of Nun, a young man, did not depart from the [temporary prayer] tent.

Exodus 33:11

The Holy of Holies is a place where you manifest Christ and this isn’t by falling down under the anointing. It is a place where one’s lifestyle is Christ.

The Holy of Holies is a place of impartation of the Divine nature.

The Holy of Holies is a place where Jesus becomes your life. You have a different mind.

Distinctions Between The Holy Place & The Holy Of Holies

The Holy of Holies symbolizes the indwelling of the Holy Spirit whereas the Holy Place experience occurs after baptism when one has been given capacity.

In the Holy of Holies, one is given capacity to carry God’s presence. Do you have the capacity to carry God’s presence? In the Holy of Holies one is led by the presence of God.

The Holy Place represents the soul realm whereas the Holy of Holies represents the Spirit realm.

There was no candle stick, no table of showbread, no brazen laver in the Holy of Holies. There was only one light in the Holy of Holies; only God’s glory was seen. There is a place on the mountain where only God’s glory is seen. God’s glory covers ones shame. Everything is perfected based on the finished work of Jesus on the cross.

Components Of The Holy Of Holies

The veil in the Holy of Holies was made of blue, purple and scarlet twisted fabric.

  • Blue (represents heaven & divinity): When in the Holy of Holies, you are not entering time and space but into eternity.
  • Purple (represents royalty): In eternity there is one person who is King.
  • Scarlet (represents redemption): One enters the Holy of Holies through the blood.

In the Holy of Holies, you are reminded of who you are in Christ and His redemption. We are saved by faith and not by our own effort. When God is dealing with humanity, He does so through the completed work of Christ on the cross.

You are in the presence of the Eternal God. Jehovah El-Olam – the Most High God.

When Jesus died on the Cross, the curtain/veil tore into two. We now have access to the Holy of Holies. The priests that served in the Holy of Holies got saved after seeing the veil torn. They knew that it was the work of God that made the curtain tear and they got saved.

And the message of God kept on spreading, and the number of disciples multiplied greatly in Jerusalem; and [besides] a large number of the priests were obedient to the faith [in Jesus as the Messiah, through Whom is obtained eternal salvation in the kingdom of God].

Acts 6:7

Furniture In The Holy Of Holies

One piece of furniture was found in the Holy of Holies: the Ark of the Covenant.

The Ark of the Covenant contained the Mercy Seat and was overlaid with two Cherubims.

You shall put the mercy seat on the top of the ark, and in the ark you shall put the Testimony [the Ten Commandments] that I will give you. There I will meet with you and, from above the mercy seat, from between the two cherubim that are upon the ark of the Testimony, I will speak intimately with you of all which I will give you in commandment to the Israelites.

Exodus 25:21-22

The Ark of Covenant had the very presence of God. The Shekinah glory of God met with the High Priest.

It was called the Mercy Seat as the people lived in sin and the entire nation was in need of forgiveness. The blood of bulls and rams was in the stead of the entire nation. Blood was sprinkled to appease God’s wrath.

Seeing that that first [outer portion of the] tabernacle was a parable (a visible symbol or type or picture of the present age). In it gifts and sacrifices are offered, and yet are incapable of perfecting the conscience or of cleansing and renewing the inner man of the worshiper. For [the ceremonies] deal only with clean and unclean meats and drinks and different washings, [mere] external rules and regulations for the body imposed to tide the worshipers over until the time of setting things straight [of reformation, of the complete new order when Christ, the Messiah, shall establish the reality of what these things foreshadow—a better covenant]. But [that appointed time came] when Christ (the Messiah) appeared as a High Priest of the better things that have come and are to come. [Then] through the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with [human] hands, that is, not a part of this material creation, He went once for all into the [Holy of] Holies [of heaven], not by virtue of the blood of goats and calves [by which to make reconciliation between God and man], but His own blood, having found and secured a complete redemption (an everlasting release for us).

Hebrews 9:11-12

[In fact] under the Law almost everything is purified by means of blood, and without the shedding of blood there is neither release from sin and its guilt nor the remission of the due and merited punishment for sins. By such means, therefore, it was necessary for the [earthly] copies of the heavenly things to be purified, but the actual heavenly things themselves [required far] better and nobler sacrifices than these. For Christ (the Messiah) has not entered into a sanctuary made with [human] hands, only a copy and pattern and type of the true one, but [He has entered] into heaven itself, now to appear in the [very] presence of God on our behalf.

Hebrews 9:22-24

Jesus entered the Holy of Holies once and His blood took care of present and past sin.

The Ark of Covenant Components:

1. Manna:

It was a type of perfect meal to sustain the Israelites. It represents Jesus Christ who sustains us until we enter into glory.

Manna represents Christ who is our provision.

Jesus then said to them, I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, Moses did not give you the Bread from heaven [what Moses gave you was not the Bread from heaven], but it is My Father Who gives you the true heavenly Bread. For the Bread of God is He Who comes down out of heaven and gives life to the world. Then they said to Him, Lord, give us this bread always (all the time)! Jesus replied, I am the Bread of Life. He who comes to Me will never be hungry, and he who believes in and cleaves to and trusts in and relies on Me will never thirst any more (at any time).

John 6:32-35

2. Aaron’s Budding Rod:

And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying: “Speak to the children of Israel, and get from them a rod from each father’s house, all their leaders according to their fathers’ houses—twelve rods. Write each man’s name on his rod. And you shall write Aaron’s name on the rod of Levi. For there shall be one rod for the head of each father’s house. Then you shall place them in the tabernacle of meeting before the Testimony, where I meet with you. And it shall be that the rod of the man whom I choose will blossom; thus I will rid Myself of the complaints of the children of Israel, which they make against you.”

So Moses spoke to the children of Israel, and each of their leaders gave him a rod apiece, for each leader according to their fathers’ houses, twelve rods; and the rod of Aaron was among their rods. And Moses placed the rods before the Lord in the tabernacle of witness. Now it came to pass on the next day that Moses went into the tabernacle of witness, and behold, the rod of Aaron, of the house of Levi, had sprouted and put forth buds, had produced blossoms and yielded ripe almonds. Then Moses brought out all the rods from before the Lord to all the children of Israel; and they looked, and each man took his rod. And the Lord said to Moses, “Bring Aaron’s rod back before the Testimony, to be kept as a sign against the rebels, that you may put their complaints away from Me, lest they die.”

Numbers 17:1-10 (NKJV)

This rod was a sign of Aaron’s election. The events surrounding the budding rod show that when God chooses someone, it is His choice, no man should question. The budding rod speaks of Christ’s resurrection to life. It serves to remind us that Jesus is our resurrection.

The pangs of death shouldn’t hold us back as believers. The same power that raised Christ from death is resident in us.

When you are spiritually dead, you are separated from God. It is a state when you do not have capacity to fulfill purpose. Life is not found in movement; it is found in a person. The rod symbolizes Christ who conquered death.

3. Stone Tablets:

The first tablets of the 10 commandments were broken by Moses after the Israelites engaged in sin. It speaks of Christ who fulfilled the law.

The set of tablets in the Ark of Covenant were a replacement. Christ confirms the law and the prophets. Where the Ark of the Covenant was, God was there. Whenever anyone mis-handled it, people died. Uzzah died.

And David went up, and all Israel, to Baalah, that is, to Kirjathjearim, which belonged to Judah, to bring up thence the ark of God the LORD, that dwelleth between the cherubims, whose name is called on it. And they carried the ark of God in a new cart out of the house of Abinadab: and Uzza and Ahio drave the cart. And David and all Israel played before God with all their might, and with singing, and with harps, and with psalteries, and with timbrels, and with cymbals, and with trumpets. And when they came unto the threshing floor of Chidon, Uzza put forth his hand to hold the ark; for the oxen stumbled.

And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Uzza, and he smote him, because he put his hand to the ark: and there he died before God. And David was displeased, because the LORD had made a breach upon Uzza: wherefore that place is called Perezuzza to this day. And David was afraid of God that day, saying, How shall I bring the ark of God home to me? So David brought not the ark home to himself to the city of David, but carried it aside into the house of Obededom the Gittite. And the ark of God remained with the family of Obededom in his house three months. And the LORD blessed the house of Obededom, and all that he had

1 Chronicles 13:6-14

You must be worthy of carrying God’s presence. You need to handle the presence of God properly. We must be priests first.
