God – The Great I Am: Sermon By Deaconess Jackie Wandia
Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian; and he led the flock to the back or west side of the wilderness and came to Horeb or Sinai, the mountain of God. The Angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush; and he looked, and behold, the bush burned with fire, yet was not consumed. And Moses said, I will now turn aside and see this great sight, why the bush is not burned. And when the Lord saw that he turned aside to see, God called to him out of the midst of the bush and said, Moses, Moses! And he said, Here am I. God said, Do not come near; put your shoes off your feet, for the place on which you stand is holy ground. Also He said, I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look at God. And the Lord said, I have surely seen the affliction of My people who are in Egypt, and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters and oppressors; for I know their sorrows and sufferings and trials. And I have come down to deliver them out of the hand and power of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land to a land good and large, a land flowing with milk and honey [a land of plenty]–to the place of the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Amorite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite.
Now behold, the cry of the Israelites has come to Me, and I have also seen how the Egyptians oppress them. Come now therefore, and I will send you to Pharaoh, that you may bring forth My people, the Israelites, out of Egypt. And Moses said to God, Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt? God said, I will surely be with you; and this shall be the sign to you that I have sent you: when you have brought the people out of Egypt, you shall serve God on this mountain [Horeb, or Sinai]. And Moses said to God, Behold, when I come to the Israelites and say to them, The God of your fathers has sent me to you, and they say to me, What is His name? What shall I say to them? And God said to Moses, I AM WHO I AM and WHAT I AM, and I WILL BE WHAT I WILL BE; and He said, You shall say this to the Israelites: I AM has sent me to you! God said also to Moses, This shall you say to the Israelites: The Lord, the God of your fathers, of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob, has sent me to you! This is My name forever, and by this name I am to be remembered to all generations.
Exodus 3:1-15 (AMP)
Moses was tending the flock when God appeared to him on Mt. Sinai.
The mountain is a place of meeting and communion with God.
There is a depth we need to be in with God. Ascending the mountain is entering into a new and higher height in God. It’s entering a new place and having new elevated sight and vision.
When we ascend the mountain of prophetic worship, we will receive clarity, direction and the answers that we seek.
There is going to be new revelation of God as we ascend the mountain of prophetic worship.
There are going to be new experiences at the mountain. For Moses, it was a burning bush.
Exodus 3:11 – Our greatest gift is the presence of God. He is always with us.
God is I AM is a totality of all God is. He is everything that we will need Him to be. He alone is. He is absolute, the self existing one. He is perfect. This is His real nature.
We need to know God as the great I AM because all that we are going to inherit is in God. We are moving from one level of knowing God into another. The more we know Him, the more we will unlock grace to access all that is within Him. We are going deeper in God. He is the true reward. The true inheritance.
Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable.
Isaiah 40:28 (NKJV)
God will never end. He will never cease to exist or cease to be who He is.
God is absolute reality. He is utterly independent. Everything else depends on Him as He is the source of all things.
God is constant.
For I am the Lord, I do not change; that is why you, O sons of Jacob, are not consumed.
Malachi 3:6 (AMP)
He is the absolute standard of truth. He does whatever He pleases and that is in accordance to truth. He is not subject to any constraints that do not come from the counsel of His will.
He is the absolute and most valuable reality.
Then the Jews answered and said to Him, “Do we not say rightly that You are a Samaritan and have a demon?” Jesus answered, “I do not have a demon; but I honor My Father, and you dishonor Me. And I do not seek My own glory; there is One who seeks and judges. Most assuredly, I say to you, if anyone keeps My word he shall never see death.” Then the Jews said to Him, “Now we know that You have a demon! Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and You say, ‘If anyone keeps My word he shall never taste death.’ Are You greater than our father Abraham, who is dead? And the prophets are dead. Who do You make Yourself out to be?”
Jesus answered, “If I honor Myself, My honor is nothing. It is My Father who honors Me, of whom you say that He is your God. Yet you have not known Him, but I know Him. And if I say, ‘I do not know Him,’ I shall be a liar like you; but I do know Him and keep His word. Your father Abraham rejoiced to see My day, and he saw it and was glad.” Then the Jews said to Him, “You are not yet fifty years old, and have You seen Abraham?” Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.”
John 8:48-58 (NKJV)
In John 8:48-58, Jesus not only conveyed His existence prior to Abraham but His timelessness, agelessness as He is the I AM. It is His nature.
God alone is I AM.
The reason God wants us to know that He is the I AM is because we are going to access things in Him.
So you shall keep the commandments of the Lord your God, to walk in His ways and [reverently] fear Him. For the Lord your God is bringing you into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and springs, flowing forth in valleys and hills; A land of wheat and barley, and vines and fig trees and pomegranates, a land of olive trees and honey; A land in which you shall eat food without shortage and lack nothing in it; a land whose stones are iron and out of whose hills you can dig copper. When you have eaten and are full, then you shall bless the Lord your God for all the good land which He has given you. Beware that you do not forget the Lord your God by not keeping His commandments, His precepts, and His statutes which I command you today, Lest when you have eaten and are full, and have built goodly houses and live in them,
And when your herds and flocks multiply and your silver and gold is multiplied and all you have is multiplied, Then your [minds and] hearts be lifted up and you forget the Lord your God, Who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage, Who led you through the great and terrible wilderness, with its fiery serpents and scorpions and thirsty ground where there was no water, but Who brought you forth water out of the flinty rock, Who fed you in the wilderness with manna, which your fathers did not know, that He might humble you and test you, to do you good in the end. And beware lest you say in your [mind and] heart, My power and the might of my hand have gotten me this wealth. But you shall [earnestly] remember the Lord your God, for it is He Who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day. And if you forget the Lord your God and walk after other gods and serve them and worship them, I testify against you this day that you shall surely perish. Like the nations which the Lord makes to perish before you, so shall you perish, because you would not obey the voice of the Lord your God.
Deuteronomy 8:6-20 (AMP)
As we ascend the mountain of prophetic worship, we shall inherit things. May we not forget God.
There are things that He will deny us because they are not for us. We need to be obedient.
Check your heart so that pride is not found in your heart even as you access the things that God has promised you.
When you access a new reality in God, you will unlock something new and different. Your faith will increase.
God reveals truth to us that will keep us and help us stand firm as we are being tested.
And they who know Your name [who have experience and acquaintance with Your mercy] will lean on and confidently put their trust in You, for You, Lord, have not forsaken those who seek (inquire of and for) You [on the authority of God’s Word and the right of their necessity].
Psalms 9:10 (AMP)
A person’s name signifies his/her character. Knowing the name of God will help us trust Him.
The mountain is a place of transformation. You can never ascend into God’s presence and leave the same.
