INFEMI SOE 2015 (Day 5) – Tithing – A Revelation Of Faith: INFEMI Sermon By Bishop Mulumbi
Melchizedek king of Salem [later called Jerusalem] brought out bread and wine [for their nourishment]; he was the priest of God Most High, And he blessed him and said, Blessed (favored with blessings, made blissful, joyful) be Abram by God Most High, Possessor and Maker of heaven and earth, And blessed, praised, and glorified be God Most High, Who has given your foes into your hand! And [Abram] gave him a tenth of all [he had taken].
Genesis 14:18-20 (AMP)
There are three things that the devil is trying to destroy in the Church:
- Marriage
- Taking of wine – drunkardness
- Tithing
Jesus fulfilled the law. Then there’s a law He did away with. And there’s a law that He strengthened.
Everyone that accesses the prophetic mountain in the Bible never argued about tithing. E.g. Abraham, Jacob.
If this generation does not have someone that does not teach them the truth, they will be a generation that does not know God.
Transition is very important. After Joshua came Judges and a generation that did not know God. It is important to pass on the truth and the principles of God to the next generation.
There are men of God that are preaching the Gospel because of their love for Christ not for money.
Where does tithe come from? Who was the first man to tithe?
It was Abraham, who is called the father of faith.
Abraham was the first man to live by faith and by the voice. He did not have a pastor or the Torah but he became the father of faith.
God was able to disconnect Abraham from other gods so that he may worship Him.
God introduces Himself by His voice. He introduces people to His atmosphere where they could hear His voice. E.g. Moses and the burning bush, Gideon threshing wheat.
Abraham returned from battle after recapturing Lot and met with Melchizedek, king of Salem, the priest of the most high who has no end, no father or mother.
After his return from the defeat of Chedorlaomer and the kings who were with him, the king of Sodom went out to meet him at the Valley of Shaveh (that is, the King’s Valley). And Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine. (He was priest of God Most High.) And he blessed him and said, “Blessed be Abram by God Most High, Possessor of heaven and earth; and blessed be God Most High, who has delivered your enemies into your hand!”
And Abram gave him a tenth of everything.
Genesis 14:17-20 (ESV)
Melchizedek blessed Abraham and blessed God who gave him victory, success and prosperity.
After hearing what Melchizedek shared, Abraham gave him a tithe without anyone asking him. Abraham had a revelation of Christ. He had seen Him crucified before the foundation of the earth so he walked in the revelation of Christ before Christ came. He had a revelation of tithe. It was an act of faith to the blesser.
We do not tithe to man. We tithe to Christ.
Every time when a man hears what God is saying, he is hearing Christ. Jesus is the word. Abraham received the word of God (Christ) and because of his revelation of the blesser, he gave tithe to Melchizedek, a priest that continues forever. This priest can never be replaced.
Melchizedek typifies the pre-incarnate Christ.
Tithe is a response of faith by them who have a revelation of Christ.
Spiritual things are real. The Church is called to be spiritual. We are sons of God and have access to the Kingdom. The Kingdom is spirit.
And Jacob left Beersheba and went toward Haran. And he came to a certain place and stayed there overnight, because the sun was set. Taking one of the stones of the place, he put it under his head and lay down there to sleep. And he dreamed that there was a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven; and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it! And behold, the Lord stood over and beside him and said, I am the Lord, the God of Abraham your father [forefather] and the God of Isaac; I will give to you and to your descendants the land on which you are lying. And your offspring shall be as [countless as] the dust or sand of the ground, and you shall spread abroad to the west and the east and the north and the south; and by you and your Offspring shall all the families of the earth be blessed and bless themselves. And behold, I am with you and will keep (watch over you with care, take notice of) you wherever you may go, and I will bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done all of which I have told you.
And Jacob awoke from his sleep and he said, Surely the Lord is in this place and I did not know it. He was afraid and said, How to be feared and reverenced is this place! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gateway to heaven! And Jacob rose early in the morning and took the stone he had put under his head, and he set it up for a pillar (a monument to the vision in his dream), and he poured oil on its top [in dedication]. And he named that place Bethel [the house of God]; but the name of that city was Luz at first. Then Jacob made a vow, saying, If God will be with me and will keep me in this way that I go and will give me food to eat and clothing to wear, So that I may come again to my father’s house in peace, then the Lord shall be my God; And this stone which I have set up as a pillar (monument) shall be God’s house [a sacred place to me], and of all [the increase of possessions] that You give me I will give the tenth to You.
Genesis 28:10-22 (AMP)
Jacob had an encounter. He walked into an atmosphere and got a revelation of God.
When people in the Church have an encounter with God, there will be a consecration that will take place in your heart and cause you to stop doing some things without anyone telling you.
The house of God should be referred to as the gate to heaven. It is not a place but an atmosphere created by Christ and the Holy Ghost that enables us to communicate with God and God to communicate with man. It is a place where anything can happen, where there is a spiritual atmosphere that can transform you.
When you come to the gate of heaven, to this atmosphere, God will send you as a carrier of the atmosphere to cause spiritual shifts to happen everywhere you go.
Genesis 28:20-22 (AMP)
When you carry the atmosphere, you will be able to multiply and thrive even in difficult places.
Tithe is for the house of God.
Jacob had a revelation that caused him to vow to return to Bethel (the house of God) and return with a tithe of all his possessions if God kept him, blessed him and sustained him.
Tithe is a revelation. If you don’t have a revelation of who God is, you will have a problem with tithing.
The Church must change how they treat unbelievers because they have their place in the Kingdom of God.
To be blessed depends on you following the principles of God but going to heaven is a choice.
Jacob gave a tithe by revelation. This was before the law was introduced to Israelites.
Tithe is received by the man of God on behalf of Christ.
Tithe does not just bring a blessing. It brings a protection over all that you have.
Leviticus 27 – This is tithing in the law.
The law is a tutor that leads you to Christ. It leads you to Christ the hard way. No man was able to keep the law. Jesus was the law Himself and only He could perfectly keep the law.
The tithe is holy and consecrated belonging to God. Tithe does not belong to the preacher. It belongs to God. You are not giving to man. You are giving to God, the God who gave you success.
If you eat your tithe, you are eating holy things.
When you walk in the law of the Holy Spirit, you don’t keep the law but you don’t break it.
Tithe does not belong to you. It belongs to God and to His purpose.
God took the Levites to be the priesthood and His portion but the 11 to remain in the marketplace.
And, behold, I have given the Levites all the tithes in Israel for an inheritance in return for their service which they serve, the [menial] service of the Tent of Meeting.
Numbers 18:21 (AMP)
God set the Levites aside as His portion. If they are God’s portion, they will live by His portion. They are not in the marketplace. They do the work of God as they have no inheritance as God is their inheritance. Don’t take away the food of the Levites.
There is a calling (even as you are employed or run businesses) and a calling into full time ministry whether pastor, evangelist, prophet, etc.
If God wants you to serve Him fully, He will confirm it. We need ministers in the marketplace who give God’s counsel where they work.
The wisdom and counsel of God that you submit to can deliver you from anything.
Nations need to submit to the counsel of God. A government for the people by the people has rejected God. But a nation that turns unto God for counsel shall prevail and be preserved.
All other tribes of Israel gave to Israel.
There is a blessing in tithing.
At the end of every three years you shall bring forth all the tithe of your increase the same year and lay it up within your towns. And the Levite [because he has no part or inheritance with you] and the stranger or temporary resident, and the fatherless and the widow who are in your towns shall come and eat and be satisfied, so that the Lord your God may bless you in all the work of your hands that you do.
Deuteronomy 14:28-29 (AMP)
There is purpose in the tithe. It is for the Levites, the stranger, the fatherless and the widow.
True widows and true fatherless people are the ones without anyone to help them. The Church is supposed to take some of the tithe and give to them. Tithe belongs to God. It is God’s tithe for His purpose.
If you do not honour your parents, you will never be blessed. It shall not be well with you.
Tithe brings blessings to the works of your hand. God is the only one who can cause you to succeed where you are.
Don’t love the blessing more than the blesser.
Even from the days of your fathers you have turned aside from My ordinances and have not kept them. Return to me, and I will return to you, says the Lord of hosts. But you say, How shall we return? Will a man rob or defraud God? Yet you rob and defraud Me. But you say, In what way do we rob or defraud You? [You have withheld your] tithes and offerings. You are cursed with the curse, for you are robbing Me, even this whole nation. Bring all the tithes (the whole tenth of your income) into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house, and prove Me now by it, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. And I will rebuke the devourer [insects and plagues] for your sakes and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground, neither shall your vine drop its fruit before the time in the field, says the Lord of hosts. And all nations shall call you happy and blessed, for you shall be a land of delight, says the Lord of hosts.
Malachi 3:7-12 (AMP)
To rob means to take away something without someone’s permission. It also means that you have robbed God of an opportunity to bless you. You have shut your own open door.
Tithing is one act that carries a promise.
Tithe brings protection to what is yours. He will rebuke the devourer and protect all that is yours.
You cannot sanctify by the blood of Jesus what you have stolen (tithe and offering)
If you break Kingdom principles, they break you. If you keep them, you activate a spiritual law and they will work for you.
You need to read the word of God and capture the Spirit of the word. Capture the spirit of the writer as they were inspired by the Holy Spirit.
Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, pretenders (hypocrites)! For you give a tenth of your mint and dill and cummin, and have neglected and omitted the weightier (more important) matters of the Law–right and justice and mercy and fidelity. These you ought [particularly] to have done, without neglecting the others.
Matthew 23:23 (AMP)
When you don’t have a revelation, you question and argue with everything.
For this Melchizedek, king of Salem [and] priest of the Most High God, met Abraham as he returned from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him, And Abraham gave to him a tenth portion of all [the spoil]. He is primarily, as his name when translated indicates, king of righteousness, and then he is also king of Salem, which means king of peace. Without [record of] father or mother or ancestral line, neither with beginning of days nor ending of life, but, resembling the Son of God, he continues to be a priest without interruption and without successor.
Hebrews 7:1-3 (AMP)
A person might even say that Levi [the father of the priestly tribe] himself, who received tithes (the tenth), paid tithes through Abraham, For he was still in the loins of his forefather [Abraham] when Melchizedek met him [Abraham].
Hebrews 7:9-10 (AMP)
Abraham gave to Jesus Christ typified as Melchizedek. Abraham gave to the King of righteousness and the King of peace.
The set man of God in your life receives your tithe on behalf of Christ. Tithe is given to God.
Tithing is the key to living in the economy of the Kingdom of God. The Kingdom of God is governed by this spiritual law.
People rob God of their tithe because they focus on giving to man and not God.
Tithing is not just for believers. It is also for non-believers. It is a principle of the Kingdom of God.
