Living In The Divine Element Of The Law – Part 3: Sermon By Apostle Gobanga
Know and understand that it is [really] the people [who live] by faith who are [the true] sons of Abraham. And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify (declare righteous, put in right standing with Himself) the Gentiles in consequence of faith, proclaimed the Gospel [foretelling the glad tidings of a Savior long beforehand] to Abraham in the promise, saying, In you shall all the nations [of the earth] be blessed. So then, those who are people of faith are blessed and made happy and favored by God [as partners in fellowship] with the believing and trusting Abraham. And all who depend on the Law [who are seeking to be justified by obedience to the Law of rituals] are under a curse and doomed to disappointment and destruction, for it is written in the Scriptures, Cursed (accursed, devoted to destruction, doomed to eternal punishment) be everyone who does not continue to abide (live and remain) by all the precepts and commands written in the Book of the Law and to practice them.
Now it is evident that no person is justified (declared righteous and brought into right standing with God) through the Law, for the Scripture says, The man in right standing with God [the just, the righteous] shall live by and out of faith and he who through and by faith is declared righteous and in right standing with God shall liveBut the Law does not rest on faith [does not require faith, has nothing to do with faith], for it itself says, He who does them [the things prescribed by the Law] shall live by them [not by faith]. Christ purchased our freedom [redeeming us] from the curse (doom) of the Law [and its condemnation] by [Himself] becoming a curse for us, for it is written [in the Scriptures], Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree (is crucified); To the end that through [their receiving] Christ Jesus, the blessing [promised] to Abraham might come upon the Gentiles, so that we through faith might [all] receive [the realization of] the promise of the [Holy] Spirit. To speak in terms of human relations, brethren, [if] even a man makes a last will and testament (a merely human covenant), no one sets it aside or makes it void or adds to it when once it has been drawn up and signed (ratified, confirmed). Now the promises (covenants, agreements) were decreed and made to Abraham and his Seed (his Offspring, his Heir). He [God] does not say, And to seeds (descendants, heirs), as if referring to many persons, but, And to your Seed (your Descendant, your Heir), obviously referring to one individual, Who is [none other than] Christ (the Messiah).
This is my argument: The Law, which began 430 years after the covenant [concerning the coming Messiah], does not and cannot annul the covenant previously established (ratified) by God, so as to abolish the promise and make it void. For if the inheritance [of the promise depends on observing] the Law [as these false teachers would like you to believe], it no longer [depends] on the promise; however, God gave it to Abraham [as a free gift solely] by virtue of His promise. What then was the purpose of the Law? It was added [later on, after the promise, to disclose and expose to men their guilt] because of transgressions and [to make men more conscious of the sinfulness] of sin; and it was intended to be in effect until the Seed (the Descendant, the Heir) should come, to and concerning Whom the promise had been made. And it [the Law] was arranged and ordained and appointed through the instrumentality of angels [and was given] by the hand (in the person) of a go-between [Moses, an intermediary person between God and man]. Now a go-between (intermediary) has to do with and implies more than one party [there can be no mediator with just one person]. Yet God is [only] one Person [and He was the sole party in giving that promise to Abraham. But the Law was a contract between two, God and Israel; its validity was dependent on both]. Is the Law then contrary and opposed to the promises of God? Of course not!
For if a Law had been given which could confer [spiritual] life, then righteousness and right standing with God would certainly have come by Law. But the Scriptures [picture all mankind as sinners] shut up and imprisoned by sin, so that [the inheritance, blessing] which was promised through faith in Jesus Christ (the Messiah) might be given (released, delivered, and committed) to [all] those who believe [who adhere to and trust in and rely on Him]. Now before the faith came, we were perpetually guarded under the Law, kept in custody in preparation for the faith that was destined to be revealed (unveiled, disclosed), So that the Law served [a][to us Jews] as our trainer [our guardian, our guide to Christ, to lead us] until Christ [came], that we might be justified (declared righteous, put in right standing with God) by and through faith. But now that the faith has come, we are no longer under a trainer (the guardian of our childhood). For in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God through faith.Galatians 3:7-26 (AMPC)
Moses was the mediator of the preceding Law. There was no need for a New Covenant if the Mosaic Law worked. The Mosaic law could not deliver the children of Israel from the cause and consequences of sin. The New Covenant has nothing to do with externalities. The old was vested with typologies and patterns that portray the life of Christ e.g. the Holy of Holies typifies the presence of God and Christ is the High Priest of the order of Melchizedek.
The Jesus we read in the Bible came as man the real Christ was resident in a man. He came to address the wrong perception they had about God.
Relationship determines how we discern the hour of visitation. It is one thing to know the scriptures, but it another thing to know Christ. The Pharisees and Sadducees missed their hour of visitation despite him being in their midst. Their thorough knowledge of the letter of the law could not point them to the Messiah.
The wind blows (breathes) where it wills; and though you hear its sound, yet you neither know where it comes from nor where it is going. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.John 3:8 (AMPC)
We live in times when people want to cage God – where people expect Him to start in a particular manner and end in a particular manner but He cannot caged. He moves the way He desires. God is not a respecter of man but of Himself. He will use various ways and means that will baffle man.
For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways, says the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts.Isaiah 55: 8-9 (AMPC)
There is a difference between Jesus the person and the Bible (which bears witness of Christ).
If we have the natural sense of the Scripture then we do not know Christ. Truth is a spirit, nature and expression. Truth is not in a book and cannot be caged in a book. It is in your heart. If it is not resident in your heart, you will remain bound.
We need to have the divine element of the Law of Christ that has set us free from the law of death. You need to have the Spirit of God to decode scripture that you have memorized to bear fruit in your life. The Spirit of the law delivers you from the consciousness of the natural man.
Simon Peter replied, You are the Christ, the Son of the living God. Then Jesus answered him, Blessed (happy, fortunate, and to be envied) are you, Simon Bar-Jonah. For flesh and blood [men] have not revealed this to you, but My Father Who is in heaven.Matthew 16:16-17 (AMPC)
Jesus was the spiritual truth of God not the Bible. The exact image of God and the expression of God made audible in your life. God needs to be audible for him to have an effect in your life.
The issue with the Pharisees is that Jesus did not portray the perception they had of God and therefore they clashed with Christ.
When you start to walk in perception of truth you will experience opposition because people have carnal perceptions of Christ. This will also happen to us when we arise with the spirit of Christ. The clash will be real because of the perception and idolatry of who we think God should be. Idolatry is a heart position, a mindset, a posture and the rogue and wrong heart position we have of God. It is not a thing.
As much as Christ constantly ministered to the Pharisees, they were not ready to give up their wrong perceptions of God. The Pharisees and the Church today have the perception of God that is not real. To the point where when truth is spoken, we are resistant to it.
It is possible to be in the Church and still have the wrong perception you had of God while you were in the world. For example: God helps those who help themselves. This is not true. What of robbers who help themselves? Does God help them too? This is not Scriptural.
One of the things God is going to restore is the resurrection of the dead. What this means is that doctors will fail. Doctors must fail first, then later confirm the resurrection.
We are moving into a level where you need to walk by faith in what God has spoken otherwise nothing will work for you.
The Scriptures are there to confirm what God has spoken.
You need to do away with your ideas about God. He is Spirit. God is not and idea, concept or notion but a person. The difference he has with us is that he is spirit.
Walk in your season. Walk in the divine element of the law where you walk according to what God has told you. Know your season if not you will miss it. Knowing your season will cause you to effectively walk in the divine element of the Law of God. Some are sowing and others are reaping and we cannot walk in someone else’s season otherwise we will suffer. Just because you’ve given into the work of God does not mean that God will give you returns. He may bless you in other ways.
We need the consciousness of the spiritual truth of God at work in us in our lives. That is the divine element of the law; the Word of God.
Spiritual people conceive in the spirit. The natural man cannot conceive in the spirit. When you allow yourself to live in the flesh, you will not be able to conceive things in the spirit.
There is war in the Body Of Christ in Kenya because truth is not resident in us. We are quick to judge others in the name of the Bible and put people down in the name of God. The clergy uses their position and Scriptures to trample over people.
The divine element of the law checks on your motive. God judges the motive of the heart and is concerned with the motive behind your words and actions. We need to go beyond Scripture and ask if we have the element of the law in us and if our motives are pure.
You cannot judge a person using Scripture based on their personality. Humility is not speaking quietly. People who are outgoing can still be humble. When we have the Spirit of the truth, we will see the unique capabilities in others.
The divine element of the law means the standard has been raised. Why do we do what we do? E.g. If you are malicious to a person in the faith, tearing them down such that they backslide, you are no worse than a murderer.
Spirit of the law here denotes motive. What was the heart and mind of the Father when He gave the law? When the law talks of love it is not love with words only. Love is an expression. It is a nature and a lifestyle. It is not mere words or feelings or quoting scriptures. The word of God is the Spirit of prophecy. The letter kills.
Sometimes, you can hear God give you prophetic words and Rhema and it is possible for them to become letter when He speaks Spirit-words. We are to see the motive behind it and begin to live right and align to the Rhema. If it be business, we must align and attain business principles and check on our attitude towards business.
The generation after Moses lived, believed in Moses more than God. The same with Abraham. They called themselves the children of Moses and Abraham but did not live like them. The Spirit of Christ was resident in both before Christ came, but they could not understand it. Jesus challenged the Sadducees when He said that Abraham knew him and rejoiced.
The substance of the law is in the Spirit. The things we do and things God will require us to do are to point us to the substance of the law which is Christ. They are not the substance. The Spirit of the law enables you to know what is of God and which is not. Even sorcerers can discern this as they are spirit beings.
But to as many as did receive and welcome Him, He gave the authority (power, privilege, right) to become the children of God, that is, to those who believe in (adhere to, trust in, and rely on) His name— Who owe their birth neither to [c]bloods nor to the will of the flesh [that of physical impulse] nor to the will of man [that of a natural father], but to God. [They are born of God!].John 1:12-13 (AMPC)
The Spirit of Christ causes you testify that God is your Father. It is something that is consciously at work within you. A man cannot teach us to find God or to see Him as our Father. It is spiritual and not structural.
You don’t need to teach people some things rather we expose them to an environment that carries a tangible nature of God. That is enough. For example, there is a level of Bible Study that is Spirit-led that illuminates you since they are made known to you by the Spirit of God.
In Scripture, Bartimaeus did not know much, but he experienced God when his eyes were open and the truth of his sight was enough to keep him in relationship with God. Have we received the Spirit of God to the point where we identify ourselves as sons?
The entrance and unfolding of Your words give light; their unfolding gives understanding (discernment and comprehension) to the simple.Psalm 119:130 (AMPC)
When you walk by faith and by the voice, you will go through a very tough terrain because it is God’s doing. A case in point is the journey of the children of Israel.
There are only things that God speaks to you. Learn to hear, to trust and hide His words in your heart even though others may not understand it. When you start walking with God, you have to be daring. We are to do things because we have heard Him. You must know your dimension. You need to hear God.
The Spirit of the Lord will lead you into all truth. He will reveal whatever he gets from the son of God and make it know to you.
But you have been anointed by [you hold a sacred appointment from, you have been given an unction from] the Holy One, and you all know [the Truth] or you know all things.1 John 2:20 (AMPC)
Christ came not to abolish the law but fulfill it. He fulfilled the reason why the law was brought not the letter of the law. The law was to point us to Christ, the sum of the law and prophets. It was to prepare us to be redeemed. It was to be a tutor to Christ.
Do not think that I have come to do away with or [ab]undo the Law or the Prophets; I have come not to do away with or undo but to complete and fulfill them.Matthew 5:17 (AMPC)
Reading the Bible cannot deliver us. You need the Holy Spirit to enable you to apply it. The Word of God is Christ. Christ is the One who delivers us.
The Spirit of God deals with sin and the effects of sin in your life. When the Spirit of Christ is in you, everything finds its place, bearing and function.
