Living In The Divine Element Of The Law – Part 9: Sermon By Apostle Gobanga

By this we come to know (recognize and understand) that we love the children of God: when we love God and obey His commands (orders, charges)—[when we keep His ordinances and are mindful of His precepts and His teaching]. For the [true] love of God is this: that we do His commands [keep His ordinances and are mindful of His precepts and teaching]. And these orders of His are not irksome (burdensome, oppressive, or grievous).

1 John 5:2-3 (AMPC)

Walking by faith is not discarding the law. True faith is keeping the commands of the Lord. Observing God’s command is not a burden or bondage. We obey God because we love Him and it is a sure sign of our faith in Him. It is at the place of covenant (where there is love) that one can observe God’s commandments and keep His law.

Our understanding of commandments and the law is warped because of how our biological parents and authority figures modelled it and the impact it had on our upbringing. It is not the fault of our biological parents since they were taught the same. These authority figures misrepresented what authority is all about.

A commandment in its true meaning is obedience. It is issued for obedience and obedience is sign of love. Where there is covenant, there is love. We cannot walk in fellowship unless we know what God expects of us. Some benefits will not come to our lives unless you are in agreement with God by observing His commandments.

Freedom in Christ gives you the privilege to obey. God does not impose His law on us. Freedom comes with responsibility and being free does not mean you should not obey the laws of God only to accrue the benefits it brings to your life.

It is the principle that we defy that will judge us. In His love, God lets the principle you defy to judge you. If anything, God will allow you to disobey Him knowing very well the consequences of the same. In the same way, when we defy the principle of gravity we will suffer the consequences so it is with the spiritual principles of God. He has set the word above His name.

God is concerned about us having a positive attitude to the law rather than observing the letter of the law. This will cause us to have an inner desire to obey the law in the spirit not just the letter. When you have the wrong attitude towards God’s law you will not understand why He set it in the first place. The attitude you have towards God’s law is fundamental beyond the outward expression of His law. You need to understand why He ordained His law.

At the place of covenant, relationship and fellowship there is no condemnation. In the event we defy the law of God, in the place of relationship we will not wait for God to confront us and instead we run to Him. When Adam and Eve disobeyed, they ran away from Him. They forgot that He is the God of relationship.

Just like Adam and Eve, we run away and hide from God when we fall into sin. God knows that we fall short of His standards. God wants us to run to Him into His arms where we are safe when we fall short so that His love covers ours sin & clothes us with righteousness. In the hands of men, we are uncovered.

And David said to Gad, I am in great and distressing perplexity; let me fall, I pray you, into the hands of the Lord, for very great and many are His mercies; but let me not fall into the hands of man.

1 Chronicles 21:13 (AMPC)

And David said to Gad, I am in great distress. Let us fall into the hands of the Lord, for His mercies are many and great; but let me not fall into the hands of man.

2 Samuel 24:14 (AMPC)

As we embrace His love, we are motivated to follow His command. Love is an opportunity to obey. It is not an excuse for unrighteousness. Love is imparted to us by the person of the Holy Spirit. And when He does so, we will not feel guilty and condemned. We will be secure and based on the work of the Cross.

Just because we are emotional, does not mean that we have love. Emotions are to be modulated by the spirit man. Operating on feelings alone is lawlessness. Feelings cannot be substituted for the obedience of the law of God. We should not refuse to do things such as tithing because you do not feel like tithing. God will count you as a transgressor of His law.

Anyone who loves God will observe His commandments. Christ says that for such a person, He and God will abide in his heart. You cannot claim to be a carrier of the presence of God and be hateful, malicious, vengeful. There will be no fruit of the Holy Spirit in you.

God expects us to look at the example of Christ who kept the commands in the full spirit of the law. He was not lawless yet had the love of the Father and gave love to His disciples. When you love God and brethren, you have observed the whole law of God. Jesus forgave and gave a commandment that we should love one another.

I give you a new commandment: that you should love one another. Just as I have loved you, so you too should love one another. By this shall all [men] know that you are My disciples, if you love one another [if you keep on showing love among yourselves].

John 13:34-35 (AMPC)

We need to love each other in the fellowship to have the love of God in us. Love is a package. It is not only hard but also soft. Those are two sides of a coin. It is an act of love to confront a brother who sins. If your brother is walking in the fullness of disobedience and you do not rebuke him, then you will be accountable to God for their backsliding. The Lord told prophet Ezekiel that he would account for the blood of the people that died in sin if he did not speak.

I have loved you, [just] as the Father has loved Me; abide in My love [continue in His love with Me]. If you keep My commandments [if you continue to obey My instructions], you will abide in My love and live on in it, just as I have obeyed My Father’s commandments and live on in His love. I have told you these things, that My joy and delight may be in you, and that your joy and gladness may be of full measure and complete and overflowing. This is My commandment: that you love one another [just] as I have loved you.

John 15:9-12 (AMPC)

We need to stop people who are not grounded in faith from ascending into high positions of church leadership. We should appoint people who are tried and tested and have a reputation among the brethren. These are people who have been able to take rebuke well and are mature in the faith.

We are to obey the commands of the law with the full spirit of the law. Until you understand God’s law, you cannot obey it. We need to know the heart and mind of God when He requires certain things from us.

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.

John 13:34-35 (NKJV)

As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love. If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love. These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full. This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.

John 15:9-12 (NKJV)

Jesus did not come to abolish the law but to magnify it. He fulfills the whole law and makes it more binding by magnifying it and setting it to a higher standard beyond the outward expression of following the law. He did this by revealing the full spiritual meaning of the law.

He makes us understand certain intents of the law. Where there is no covenant, people fall short of understanding the purpose of the law; the heart and mind of God. Where there is understanding in this, the people walk in agreement with God.

Jesus did not condemn people, He looked for relationship. We should not have the holier-than-thou attitude when relating with people. He did not confront Zacchaeus; He created a relationship with him. This is the pattern we need to embody with unbelievers. For many people, their salvation ends at the crusade because of lack of discipleship of new believers by the church. God needs to change the church’s approach to evangelism. You cannot force or scare people to get saved. Some people just need an environment where they are appreciated and loved.

Jesus brought the physical rituals of the law to completion i.e. to fulfillment. The priesthood of Aaron in the Old Testament was concerned with sacrificing animals while in the New Testament Jesus ushered a new priesthood in the order of Melchizedek. He did away with the rituals as a way to qualify for obedience to God but He did not mean that the principles were abolished.

Christ established a new covenant of love founded on better promises where the requirements are spiritual not physical. The nature and principles of the law are retained in the new covenant inaugurated by Christ.

It was one that pertained to the requirements of the Spirit. This law had one sacrifice of Jesus and that was His life and was a perfect sacrifice. It annulled the requirements of the Old Covenant and replaced every animal sacrifice. The requirement of animal sacrifice was done away with by a superior sacrifice the blood of the Lamb of God. His blood took care of past, present and future sins of mankind.

Sacrifice and offering You do not desire, nor have You delight in them; You have given me the capacity to hear and obey [Your law, a more valuable service than] burnt offerings and sin offerings [which] You do not require. Then said I, Behold, I come; in the volume of the book it is written of me; I delight to do Your will, O my God; yes, Your law is within my heart.

Psalm 40:6-8 (AMPC)

Hence, when He [Christ] entered into the world, He said, Sacrifices and offerings You have not desired, but instead You have made ready a body for Me [to offer]; In burnt offerings and sin offerings You have taken no delight. Then I said, Behold, here I am, coming to do Your will, O God—[to fulfill] what is written of Me in the volume of the Book. When He said just before, You have neither desired, nor have You taken delight in sacrifices and offerings and burnt offerings and sin offerings—all of which are offered according to the Law

Hebrews 10:5-8 (AMPC)

When you share spiritual mysteries that God shows you with some people, they may still doubt or not believe what you say. This was also the case in the life of Christ on this earth.

The priesthood of Christ came into effect when He ascended into heaven and sat at the right hand of God. His priesthood is without end. This is the one Christians are to follow. It is superior to that of Aaron and the prophets.

The function of Christ as a High Priest is to intercede on behalf of the saints. He makes intercession in a spiritual temple not a man-made one. His priesthood is much better than that of Aaron. The temple is you and I.

Therefore He is able also to save to the uttermost (completely, perfectly, finally, and for all time and eternity) those who come to God through Him, since He is always living to make petition to God and intercede with Him and intervene for them.

Hebrews 7:25 (AMPC)

The transactions of the New Testament believer are spiritual rather than physical like those of the Old Testament. The prototype of the Church is in the Spirit. The Church is a mystery. To understand the Church, we must tap into the Spirit.

We have a perfected version of ourselves in heaven; in the spiritual realm. The only way you can transact with Christ is when your spirit man taps into the perfected version of who you are in heaven. It is not limited to your body and does not live inside the body. There is fullness of who I am in the spirit – the unveiled, glorified person. It is for this reason we endeavour to grow into the fullness of stature of Christ.

[That it might develop] until we all attain oneness in the faith and in the comprehension of the [full and accurate] knowledge of the Son of God, that [we might arrive] at really mature manhood (the completeness of personality which is nothing less than the standard height of Christ’s own perfection), the measure of the stature of the fullness of the Christ and the completeness found in Him.

Ephesians 4:13 (AMPC)

When He comes to be glorified in His saints [on that day He will be made more glorious in His consecrated people], and [He will] be marveled at and admired [in His glory reflected] in all who have believed [who have adhered to, trusted in, and relied on Him], because our witnessing among you was confidently accepted and believed [and confirmed in your lives].

2 Thessalonians 1:10 (AMPC)

It is for this reason we are strengthened in the inner man.

From whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height— to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

Ephesians 3:15-21 (NKJV)

Simon Peter, a bondservant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who have obtained like precious faith with us by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ: Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins. Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble; for so an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

For this reason I will not be negligent to remind you always of these things, though you know and are established in the present truth. Yes, I think it is right, as long as I am in this tent, to stir you up by reminding you, knowing that shortly I must put off my tent, just as our Lord Jesus Christ showed me. Moreover I will be careful to ensure that you always have a reminder of these things after my decease.

For we did not follow cunningly devised fables when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of His majesty. For He received from God the Father honor and glory when such a voice came to Him from the Excellent Glory: “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” And we heard this voice which came from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain. And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts; knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.

2 Peter 1 (NKJV)

God has already given everything to you. He made everything available. The problem is you believing in your circumstances.

God requires us to connect with the perfected version of ourselves. When Scriptures speak of the manifestation of the sons of God, this is the perfected state of sonship. God transacts with what is perfect. A son is perfected. You need to know who you are.

Knowing your identity means you do not care what people think. The manifestation of your sonship on earth is meant to testify that you belong to God.

When you interact with the Word of God, He imparts in you His nature; the nature that He gave our perfected state. This is why God desires for you to discern others in the spirit. Their physical nature will lie to you about who they are in God. This is the reason why we are to live in the second heaven and call like minded people to do the same.

When you are alive in the spirit, you will be able to manifest dunamis (God’s dynamite power) on earth. The nature of God imparted by Him in you will not come forth to fulfill your purpose but the purpose of God.

We cannot stop the manifestation of what is divine in the person. To “touch not My anointed” means we should not fight genuine men of God because we will not succeed.
