Hearing & Obeying – The Key To Christ-Like Dominion: Devotion By Deacon David Oyuke
There is a place of intelligence that you cannot get to unless you listen. A problem in the Church is that believers are not keen on listening to what God is saying.
It is sad that many have grown up believing that Christianity is a tool for colonial oppression.
We need to seek, ask and knock.
James, a bond-servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, To the twelve [Hebrew] tribes [scattered abroad among the Gentiles] in the dispersion: Greetings (rejoice)!
James 1:1 (AMP)
Understand this, my beloved brothers and sisters. Let everyone be quick to hear [be a careful, thoughtful listener], slow to speak [a speaker of carefully chosen words and], slow to anger [patient, reflective, forgiving].
James 1:19 (AMP)
So get rid of all uncleanness and all that remains of wickedness, and with a humble spirit receive the word [of God] which is implanted [actually rooted in your heart], which is able to save your souls. But prove yourselves doers of the word [actively and continually obeying God’s precepts], and not merely listeners [who hear the word but fail to internalize its meaning], deluding yourselves [by unsound reasoning contrary to the truth]. For if anyone only listens to the word without obeying it, he is like a man who looks very carefully at his natural face in a mirror; for once he has looked at himself and gone away, he immediately forgets what he looked like. But he who looks carefully into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and faithfully abides by it, not having become a [careless] listener who forgets but [h]an active doer [who obeys], he will be blessed and favored by God in what he does [in his life of obedience].
James 1:21-25 (AMP)
James was addressing believers.
The world we live in today is revealing the heart of so many believers.
Where God is taking us, we cannot have dominion by sitting or hiding in a corner. We need to hear God where He is sending us otherwise we will be unable to function.
The Church cannot continue raising a generation that does not believe in a God who speaks and wants to have a relationship with His people.
There is a place of swift obedience that is a necessity after you hear God. Jesus Himself said that He only does what He sees His Father doing.
The Bible is a book. It has no voice. We need to hear God for ourselves. You can’t have a relationship with a person and don’t hear their voice or know what they are saying.
Believers need to come back to the place of hearing God’s voice. Divine intelligence and prophetic insight supersede human logic.
Divine “foolishness” is more powerful than human intelligence. All our breakthroughs come from obeying once we hear God.
We need to attentively hear God for every aspect of your life and promptly obey.
Then to Adam the Lord God said, “Because you have listened [attentively] to the voice of your wife, and have eaten [fruit] from the tree about which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat of it’; The ground is [now] under a curse because of you; In sorrow and toil you shall eat [the fruit] of it All the days of your life.
Genesis 3:17 (AMP)
And the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you so angry? And why do you look annoyed? If you do well [believing Me and doing what is acceptable and pleasing to Me], will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well [but ignore My instruction], sin crouches at your door; its desire is for you [to overpower you], but you must master it.” Cain talked with Abel his brother [about what God had said]. And when they were [alone, working] in the field, Cain attacked Abel his brother and killed him.
Genesis 4:6-8 (AMP)
These are two instances where the people were listening. Adam listened to his wife over God’s voice and acted.
If only you’re willing to listen, God will speak to you.
Don’t let your emotions lead and direct you. Obedience should be more powerful than your emotions.
How can you have dominion on earth if you don’t know what God wants you to do?
A believer’s basic need is hearing God and obeying Him. This is why He tells us not to worry about what we’ll eat, where we’ll sleep or what we’ll wear (Matthew 6).
You need to ensure that our heart is not defiled because it will incapacitate your communion with God and you will be unable to handle His secrets.
So when the Samaritans came to Jesus, they asked Him to remain with them; and He stayed there two days. Many more believed in Him [with a deep, abiding trust] because of His word [His personal message to them]; and they told the woman, “We no longer believe just because of what you said; for [now] we have heard Him for ourselves and know [with confident assurance] that this One is truly the Savior of [all] the world.
John 4:40-42 (AMP)
Jesus was not misinterpreted by anyone. You need to hear God for yourself like the Samaritans who hosted Jesus did.
As a son, God is accessible to you.
You cannot have dominion as a believer if you don’t hear God and obey Him. It is the only way we can influence the world for His glory.
Commune with God, hear Him clearly and partner with Him.
Next year will be a crucial year for Kenya in many things including the elections.
God ordains people into leadership based on the counsel of His will. We need to consult the counsel of God’s will before we make any decision in your life.
Have the fear of God so He can reveal His secrets to you be it for school, career, family, the Body of Christ, Kenya, etc.
God is concerned about the condition of the heart. This is what marks a true prophet. He is not looking for accuracy or rightness.
Just because a minister of the gospel is renown worldwide, does not mean that he is the mouthpiece of God or right. Prophet Samuel almost missed it when anointing David. Ensure your heart is not defiled so you can hear Him clearly.
Democracy is a cogitation of man. God is theocratic.
Partner with God through prayer so that Kenya may prosper. Pray for your leaders, whether they are in opposition or not so Kenya can prosper.
Let us trust God that Kenyans will be sober in 2017. Pray that believers and Kenyans will not be taken over by tribalism. Pray for peace.
