Understanding Dreams & Visions – Part 2: Sermon By Apostle Gobanga
You are the best interpreter of your dreams and only through the Holy Spirit can you accurately understand the meaning of your dreams.
God will use your current season, context and a background that is familiar to you to speak to you through your dreams.
Some dreams are a part of a series of dreams and it may take time to fully understand the message and interpretation of the dream. It is dangerous to rush the interpretation of progressive dreams.
Even though you may not understand the dream immediately, God will not give you a dream that will confuse or condemn you.
Our dreams are loaded with symbolism and God will use metaphors of an object or person to represent another.
I have heard what the prophets have said who prophesy lies in My Name, saying, ‘I have dreamed, I have dreamed [visions when on my bed at night].’ How long [shall this state of affairs continue]? Is there anything in the hearts of the prophets who prophesy falsehood, even these prophets of the deception of their own heart, who try to make My people forget My name by their dreams which everyone tells his neighbor, as their fathers forgot My name for Baal.
“The prophet who has a dream, let him tell a dream; and he who has My word, let him speak My word faithfully. What is the chaff to the wheat?” says the Lord. “Is not My word like a fire?” says the Lord, “And like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces? Therefore behold, I am against the prophets,” says the Lord, “who steal My words every one from his neighbor. Behold, I am against the prophets,” says the Lord, “who use their tongues and say, ‘He says.’ Behold, I am against those who prophesy false dreams,” says the Lord, “and tell them, and cause My people to err by their lies and by their recklessness. Yet I did not send them or command them; therefore they shall not profit this people at all,” says the Lord.
Jeremiah 23:25-32 (AMP)
These prophets were not false prophets. It is possible for a true prophet to prophesy lies.
Prophets need to check that their hearts are not defiled and that there is no bias. There is a fine line between prophesy and divination.
For thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, ‘Do not let your [false] prophets who are among you and your diviners deceive you; pay no attention and attach no significance to the dreams which they dream or to yours.
Jeremiah 29:8 (AMP)
We must be able to discern who a false prophet is. Don’t put emphasis on your dreams without weighing it against the word of God.
And the Lord said to me, “The prophets prophesy lies in My name. I have not sent them, commanded them, nor spoken to them; they prophesy to you a false vision, divination, a worthless thing, and the deceit of their heart.
Jeremiah 14:14 (NKJV)
Ask the Lord for rain in the time of the latter rain. The Lord will make flashing clouds; He will give them showers of rain, grass in the field for everyone.
Zechariah 10:1 (NKJV)
A vision is a visual perception of revelation. It is a supernatural occurrence with spiritual eyes.
There is an interplay between the natural and supernatural.
Types Of Visions
1. Open Vision
You watch an open scene with your eyes open and you watch something beyond the veil of visibility.
In many instances, only one may receive the vision among many.
And I, Daniel, alone saw the vision [of this heavenly being], for the men who were with me did not see the vision; nevertheless, a great panic overwhelmed them, so they ran away to hide themselves. So I was left alone and saw this great vision; yet no strength was left in me, for my normal appearance turned to a deathly pale, and I grew weak and faint [with fright]. Then I heard the sound of his words; and when I heard the sound of his words, I fell on my face in a deep sleep, with my face toward the ground. Then behold, a hand touched me and set me unsteadily on my hands and knees.
Daniel 10:7-10 (AMP)
The impact of what Daniel saw caused the people who are with him to flee.
2. Divine Sight
It is an open vision in which the natural surrounding blend into the overall scene. What happens is that you can’t tell if the image is real or spiritual e.g. Moses and the burning bush.
Now Moses was keeping the flock of Jethro (Reuel) his father-in-law, the priest of Midian; and he led his flock to the west side of the wilderness and came to Horeb (Sinai), the mountain of God. The Angel of the Lord appeared to him in a blazing flame of fire from the midst of a bush; and he looked, and behold, the bush was on fire, yet it was not consumed. So Moses said, “I must turn away [from the flock] and see this great sight—why the bush is not burned up.” When the Lord saw that he turned away [from the flock] to look, God called to him from the midst of the bush and said, “Moses, Moses!” And he said, “Here I am.” Then God said, “Do not come near; take your sandals off your feet [out of respect], because the place on which you are standing is holy ground.” Then He said, “I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” Then Moses hid his face, because he was afraid to look at God.
Exodus 3:1-6 (AMP)
God will cause certain supernatural contexts and divine sight to elicit curiosity to draw you close so He can speak to you.
3. Closed Visions
It is a vision where your eyes are closed (not necessarily asleep, perhaps in prayer) and the vision is seen in your mind.
It can be a pictorial vision or a static vision or a panoramic vision where there is motion.
4. Interactive Dreams
There is a divine exchange between the dreamer and God. The dreamer retains consciousness in that state.
5. Interactive Visions
There is activity between yourself and the Divine in relation to the natural realm you’re in. You may find yourself actively participating.
True prophets operate with a host of angelic beings and certain supernatural activities may take place that the prophet participates in that others watching may not understand.
And he was three days without sight, and neither ate nor drank. Now there was a certain disciple at Damascus named Ananias; and to him the Lord said in a vision, “Ananias.” And he said, “Here I am, Lord.” So the Lord said to him, “Arise and go to the street called Straight, and inquire at the house of Judas for one called Saul of Tarsus, for behold, he is praying. And in a vision he has seen a man named Ananias coming in and putting his hand on him, so that he might receive his sight.”
Then Ananias answered, “Lord, I have heard from many about this man, how much harm he has done to Your saints in Jerusalem. And here he has authority from the chief priests to bind all who call on Your name.” But the Lord said to him, “Go, for he is a chosen vessel of Mine to bear My name before Gentiles, kings, and the children of Israel. For I will show him how many things he must suffer for My name’s sake.”
And Ananias went his way and entered the house; and laying his hands on him he said, “Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you came, has sent me that you may receive your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit.” Immediately there fell from his eyes something like scales, and he received his sight at once; and he arose and was baptized. So when he had received food, he was strengthened. Then Saul spent some days with the disciples at Damascus.
Acts 9:9-19 (NKJV)
The next day, as they were on their way and were approaching the city, Peter went up on the roof of the house about the sixth hour (noon) to pray, but he became hungry and wanted something to eat. While the meal was being prepared he fell into a trance; and he saw the sky opened up, and an object like a great sheet descending, lowered by its four corners to the earth, and it contained all kinds of four-footed animals and crawling creatures of the earth and birds of the air. A voice came to him, “Get up, Peter, kill and eat!” But Peter said, “Not at all, Lord, for I have never eaten anything that is common (unholy) and [ceremonially] unclean.”
And the voice came to him a second time, “What God has cleansed and pronounced clean, no longer consider common (unholy).” This happened three times, and then immediately the object was taken up into heaven. Now Peter was still perplexed and completely at a loss as to what his vision could mean when the men who had been sent by Cornelius, having asked directions to Simon’s house, arrived at the gate. And they called out to ask whether Simon, who was also called Peter, was staying there. While Peter was thoughtfully considering the vision, the Spirit said to him, “Now listen, three men are looking for you. Get up, go downstairs and go with them without hesitating or doubting, because I have sent them Myself.
Acts 10:9-20 (AMP)
Peter was conscious. It was forbidden for them to eat unclean food. There was interaction between Peter and God. Peter later perceived that God was not a respecter of persons and the Gospel needed to be taken to the Gentiles.
Like Peter, it is dangerous to have a religious approach towards what God says.
The frequency of interactive dreams reflects the glory of God available and grace of God in the dreamer’s life when that dream occurs. e.g. God warning Joseph to flee to Egypt so that Jesus does not get slain by Herod.
Whenever God gives you a warning in a dream, you need to heed to it.
The devil can also use your dreams to deceive you into subverting the purpose of God in your life.
5. Twilight Dreams & Visions
These include trances received in twilight state. Certain forms of twilight dreams and visions can come in the form of breaking news (short dreams or visions) or a summary of what someone is experiencing. They are short, precise and to the point. They are given for the sake of purpose and come at a critical point in a dreamer’s life.
God uses breaking news dreams and visions to break through our natural defenses to convey critical information. God is very clear in what He is saying.
In the days we are living in, it is expedient to walk in levels that cause you to receive breaking news dreams and visions for God to speak to us prophetically.
6. Trances
A trance is a state of partial or complete detachment from your physical surrounding. They are examples of twilight encounters and occur when one is asleep or awake. A trance is short, clear and sharp and involves angelic beings. The message communicated via a trance is not ambiguous. One gets a trance when God is addressing an imminent issue in a dreamer’s life that demands appropriate prompt action.
The next day, as they went on their journey and drew near the city, Peter went up on the housetop to pray, about the sixth hour. Then he became very hungry and wanted to eat; but while they made ready, he fell into a trance.
Acts 10:9-10 (NKJV)
Now it happened, when I returned to Jerusalem and was praying in the temple, that I was in a trance and saw Him saying to me, ‘Make haste and get out of Jerusalem quickly, for they will not receive your testimony concerning Me.’
Acts 22:17-18 (NKJV)
Obeying God is important even when it doesn’t make sense.
7. Proclamation Dreams & Visions
They happen through the voice of an angel, divine messenger or God Himself.
It is important to take them seriously as the event will happen almost instantaneously.
In the night I saw [a vision] and behold, a Man was riding on a red horse, and it stood among the myrtle trees that were in the ravine; and behind Him were horses: red, sorrel (reddish-brown), and white. Then I said, “O my lord, what are these?” And the angel who was speaking with me said, “I will show you what these are.” And the Man who stood among the myrtle trees answered and said, “These are the ones whom the Lord has sent to go throughout the earth and patrol it.” And the men on the horses answered the Angel of the Lord who stood among the myrtle trees and said, “We have gone throughout the earth [patrolling it] and behold, all the earth sits at rest [in peace and free from war].” Then the Angel of the Lord said, “O Lord of hosts, how long will You withhold mercy and compassion from Jerusalem and the cities of Judah, against which You have had indignation and anger these seventy years [of the Babylonian captivity]?” And the Lord answered the angel who was speaking with me with gracious and comforting words.
So the angel who was speaking with me said to me, “Proclaim, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts, “I am jealous [with a burning, fiery passion] for Jerusalem and for Zion [demanding what is rightfully and uniquely mine] with a great jealousy. But I am very angry with the nations who are at ease and feel secure; for while I was only a little angry, they furthered the disaster [against the people of Israel].” ‘Therefore, thus says the Lord, “I have returned to Jerusalem with mercy and compassion. My house shall be built in it,” says the Lord of hosts, “and a [h]measuring line shall be stretched out over Jerusalem.”’ “Proclaim again, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts, “My cities shall again overflow with prosperity, and the Lord shall again comfort Zion and again choose Jerusalem.
Zechariah 1:8-17 (AMP)
God can use a respected spiritual leader or world leader to declare a spiritual statement that is relevant to a dreamer’s life. He is not obligated to use people that are familiar or acquainted with you.
On the surface, the proclamation may be out of context with your setting. But it can be deeply relevant to your circumstance as a dreamer.
Proclamation dreams and visions are important as they can be prophetic declarations to tell you what you need to do if you are confused or indecisive.
8. Predictive Dreams
Predictive dreams offer foresight in this manner:
a) Prophetic Dreams:
Then He said, Hear now My words: If there is a prophet among you, I, the Lord, make Myself known to him in a vision; I speak to him in a dream.
Numbers 12:6 (NKJV)
If there arises among you a prophet or a dreamer of dreams, and he gives you a sign or a wonder, and the sign or the wonder comes to pass, of which he spoke to you, saying, ‘Let us go after other gods’—which you have not known—‘and let us serve them,’
Deuteronomy 13:1-2 (NKJV)
And when Saul inquired of the Lord, the Lord did not answer him, either by dreams or by Urim or by the prophets.
1 Samuel 28:6 (NKJV)
b) Blessing & Destiny Dreams:
These dreams don’t necessarily happen immediately. Prophetic lingo is different from human lingo.
Now Jacob went out from Beersheba and went toward Haran. So he came to a certain place and stayed there all night, because the sun had set. And he took one of the stones of that place and put it at his head, and he lay down in that place to sleep. Then he dreamed, and behold, a ladder was set up on the earth, and its top reached to heaven; and there the angels of God were ascending and descending on it.
Genesis 28:10-12 (NKJV)
Now Joseph had a dream, and he told it to his brothers; and they hated him even more. So he said to them, “Please hear this dream which I have dreamed: There we were, binding sheaves in the field. Then behold, my sheaf arose and also stood upright; and indeed your sheaves stood all around and bowed down to my sheaf.” And his brothers said to him, “Shall you indeed reign over us? Or shall you indeed have dominion over us?” So they hated him even more for his dreams and for his words.
Then he dreamed still another dream and told it to his brothers, and said, “Look, I have dreamed another dream. And this time, the sun, the moon, and the eleven stars bowed down to me.” So he told it to his father and his brothers; and his father rebuked him and said to him, “What is this dream that you have dreamed? Shall your mother and I and your brothers indeed come to bow down to the earth before you?” 11 And his brothers envied him, but his father kept the matter in mind.
Genesis 37:5-11 (NKJV)
At Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream by night; and God said, “Ask! What shall I give you?”
1 Kings 3:5 (NKJV)
c) Turning Point Dreams:
Redefine what is supposed to happen.
Then the chief butler told his dream to Joseph, and said to him, “Behold, in my dream a vine was before me, and in the vine were three branches; it was as though it budded, its blossoms shot forth, and its clusters brought forth ripe grapes. Then Pharaoh’s cup was in my hand; and I took the grapes and pressed them into Pharaoh’s cup, and placed the cup in Pharaoh’s hand.”
And Joseph said to him, “This is the interpretation of it: The three branches are three days. Now within three days Pharaoh will lift up your head and restore you to your place, and you will put Pharaoh’s cup in his hand according to the former manner, when you were his butler. But remember me when it is well with you, and please show kindness to me; make mention of me to Pharaoh, and get me out of this house. For indeed I was stolen away from the land of the Hebrews; and also I have done nothing here that they should put me into the dungeon.”
Genesis 40:9-15 (NKJV)
9. Corrective Dreams
Are insightful.
a) Warning/Correction:
For God may speak in one way, or in another, yet man does not perceive it. In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls upon men, while slumbering on their beds. Then He opens the ears of men, and seals their instruction. In order to turn man from his deed, and conceal pride from man, He keeps back his soul from the Pit, and his life from perishing by the sword.
Job 33:14-18 (NKJV)
While he was sitting on the judgment seat, his wife sent to him, saying, “Have nothing to do with that just Man, for I have suffered many things today in a dream because of Him.”
Matthew 27:19 (NKJV)
b) Encouragement/Confirmation:
And when Gideon had come, there was a man telling a dream to his companion. He said, “I have had a dream: To my surprise, a loaf of barley bread tumbled into the camp of Midian; it came to a tent and struck it so that it fell and overturned, and the tent collapsed.” Then his companion answered and said, “This is nothing else but the sword of Gideon the son of Joash, a man of Israel! Into his hand God has delivered Midian and the whole camp.”
And so it was, when Gideon heard the telling of the dream and its interpretation, that he worshiped. He returned to the camp of Israel, and said, “Arise, for the Lord has delivered the camp of Midian into your hand.”
Judges 7:13-15 (NKJV)
c) Guidance:
Now after he had seen the vision, immediately we sought to go to Macedonia, concluding that the Lord had called us to preach the gospel to them.
Acts 16:10 (NKJV)
10. Call To Service/Commission Dream
And Saul said, “Who are You, Lord?” And He answered, “I am Jesus whom you are persecuting, now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.”
Acts 9:5-6 (AMP)
In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple. Above it stood seraphim; each one had six wings: with two he covered his face, with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. And one cried to another and said: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts. The whole earth is full of His glory!”
And the posts of the door were shaken by the voice of him who cried out, and the house was filled with smoke. So I said: “Woe is me, for I am undone! Because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips. For my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts.” Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a live coal which he had taken with the tongs from the altar. And he touched my mouth with it, and said: “Behold, this has touched your lips. Your iniquity is taken away, and your sin purged. Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: “Whom shall I send, And who will go for Us?” Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.” And He said, “Go, and tell this people: ‘Keep on hearing, but do not understand. Keep on seeing, but do not perceive.’
Isaiah 6:1-9 (NKJV)
11. Healing & Deliverance Dream
God can minister healing (emotional or physical) to you through a dream.
As you dream, God will bypass your logic and pre-conceived notions so as to have His Spirit connect to your spirit.
Once you wake up from such a dream, you feel better.
Dreams are where we return to feel balance and regain a sense of purpose. It is a place of recalibration where our soul and spirit find equilibrium regarding purpose.
God may show us where we are in our walk with Christ using our dreams and visions. He can use dreams and visions to deliver us from a mindset e.g. Peter regarding Gentiles.
We can have a renegade mindset about people and situations and this can cause us to miss out on what God is doing.
God is sending us to unrighteous people. He will put you in unfavourable conditions because your deliverance is connected to where you are or where He places you.
God sometimes doesn’t give you what you deserve. He gives you what He desires. Ours is to accept it.
There are mindsets that God will address in your life by putting you in a situation or by giving you a dream.
God can use a dream to take you back in time to address your past e.g. seeing yourself in uniform is God taking you back to basics and fundamentals and that there are certain lessons that you never learnt or neglected.
The things that you may be hurting from may be because of the lessons you never learnt.
God wants us to be delivered from hurt and to deliver us from a critical, judgmental spirit.
If you are not healed, the devil will use it as an open door to terrorize you.
12. Dialogue With God
It may take the form of a series of dreams where you are awoken in between dreams and intercede. Thereafter, you dream again. In the second dream, God uses it to respond to your intercession.
They occur when God is trying to address a particular subject. It can take minutes, hours, days, months and they can recur as God is giving you a progressive revelation that you have misunderstood or don’t understand e.g. God reassuring Abraham of His promise of Canaan.
Seers and seasoned prophets operate in this type of dream.
A dreamer may be too familiar with the people in the dream that they fail to be conscious of God’s message.
Seers can have a deep sleep during the day so that God can speak urgently to them in a dream. They can get caught up in trances and get fixated on a certain direction of a room because God is ministering something to them.
Sometimes, you can find yourself falling into a deep sleep in the middle of a vision. This happens so God can bypass the mind to connect with the spirit of the dreamer. This is so the Holy Spirit can impress something that the dreamer’s mind cannot comprehend e.g.:
So Adam gave names to all cattle, to the birds of the air, and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper comparable to him. And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place. Then the rib which the Lord God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man.
Genesis 2:20-22 (NKJV)
Yet I heard the sound of his words; and while I heard the sound of his words I was in a deep sleep on my face, with my face to the ground.
Daniel 10:9 (NKJV)
There are certain spiritual needs that God can only perform when you are asleep.
13. Apparitions
It is a visionary manifestation of the supernatural in the physical realm perceived by the natural senses.
It can be a tangible experience, more than sight, in the physical realm.
They are an example of the interplay between the physical and supernatural.
And he arose that night and took his two wives, his two female servants, and his eleven sons, and crossed over the ford of Jabbok. He took them, sent them over the brook, and sent over what he had. Then Jacob was left alone; and a Man wrestled with him until the breaking of day.
Genesis 32:22-24 (NKJV)
And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted his eyes and looked, and behold, a Man stood opposite him with His sword drawn in His hand. And Joshua went to Him and said to Him, “Are You for us or for our adversaries?” So He said, “No, but as Commander of the army of the Lord I have now come.” And Joshua fell on his face to the earth and worshiped, and said to Him, “What does my Lord say to His servant?” Then the Commander of the Lord’s army said to Joshua, “Take your sandal off your foot, for the place where you stand is holy.” And Joshua did so.
Joshua 5:13-15 (NKJV)
And so it was, when they had crossed over, that Elijah said to Elisha, “Ask! What may I do for you, before I am taken away from you?” Elisha said, “Please let a double portion of your spirit be upon me.” So he said, “You have asked a hard thing. Nevertheless, if you see me when I am taken from you, it shall be so for you; but if not, it shall not be so.” Then it happened, as they continued on and talked, that suddenly a chariot of fire appeared with horses of fire, and separated the two of them; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven. And Elisha saw it, and he cried out, “My father, my father, the chariot of Israel and its horsemen!” So he saw him no more. And he took hold of his own clothes and tore them into two pieces.
2 Kings 2:9-12 (NKJV)
Belshazzar the king made a great feast for a thousand of his lords, and drank wine in the presence of the thousand. While he tasted the wine, Belshazzar gave the command to bring the gold and silver vessels which his father Nebuchadnezzar had taken from the temple which had been in Jerusalem, that the king and his lords, his wives, and his concubines might drink from them. Then they brought the gold vessels that had been taken from the temple of the house of God which had been in Jerusalem; and the king and his lords, his wives, and his concubines drank from them. They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold and silver, bronze and iron, wood and stone. In the same hour the fingers of a man’s hand appeared and wrote opposite the lampstand on the plaster of the wall of the king’s palace; and the king saw the part of the hand that wrote. Then the king’s countenance changed, and his thoughts troubled him, so that the joints of his hips were loosened and his knees knocked against each other.
Daniel 5:1-6 (NKJV)
Now after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, led them up on a high mountain by themselves; and He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became as white as the light. And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him. Then Peter answered and said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here; if You wish, let us make here three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and suddenly a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!” And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their faces and were greatly afraid. But Jesus came and touched them and said, “Arise, and do not be afraid.” When they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus only.
Matthew 17:1-8 (NKJV)
How To Receive, Remember & Record Dreams
Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above; it comes down from the Father of lights [the Creator and Sustainer of the heavens], in whom there is no variation [no rising or setting] or shadow cast by His turning [for He is perfect and never changes].
James 1:17 (AMP)
To receive a divine revelation from God is a gift. It is perfect. This is why we should ensure that the eyes of our hearts are open to know what God is communicating.
God is the Father of Lights. Where He is, there is light. Light is understanding, illumination and wisdom.
God will not tell you anything that He doesn’t want you to have understanding of.
It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, But the glory of kings is to search out a matter.
Proverbs 25:2 (AMP)
God conceals certain things but it is our glory to search out what God discloses to us.
When God discloses something to you in a dream, it is important to take time and meditate on what you have received. By constant meditation, you will capture the essence of what God is telling you.
One way to enhance how to capture the real meaning of a dream is by prayer and fasting. This heightens your spiritual sensitivity.
Fasting humbles the carnal man and every strange voice that comes from the flesh.
Fasting prepares your spirit man to capture revelation quickly. There are certain levels of revelation that you will never attain to unless you fast.
When you read God’s word as you fast, it will release faith which is the eye of understanding in the supernatural.
Ensure that you’re prayerful, that you fast and read the word of God. You are the best interpreter of your dreams.
It is dangerous to expect an interpretation of a dream that is incomplete.
Why Do People Forget Their Dreams?
1. You lack peace.
2. You ponder over too many things in your mind.
When you wake up, spend time in silence so that what you dreamed speak into your mind.
Stillness will enable you to recall the dreams you had. Stillness is not being static. It means having calmness in your inner being. Calmness in your inner being is ensuring that there is no bitterness in you and that your heart is devoid of resentment, anger or that you’re not physically exhausted.
It is dangerous to interpret your dreams if there’s no full recollection. You might lose vital parts of the dream.
3. Not giving attention to your dreams.
Dreams are received in the spirit when the mind is asleep. Your human spirit is always awake so you are alert.
Dreams line up in your spirit man and wait until you wake up so that your mind receives every transmission from the spirit world. The mind will thereafter interpret and separate that which isn’t relevant.
Dreams are written in spiritual ink that fades away. This is why it’s important to write down what you dream as the symbols may be sealed for a time.
4. There’s an intrusion of a voice that comes from your mind
What comes up is mindsets or echoes of your failures, frustrations, success, unanswered prayers, etc.
It is important to saturate your mind with God’s word – Scripture – and what He has spoken prophetically in your life. The word of God is the word of faith.
Pray for your mind before you sleep and as you wake up.
Be careful about what you receive from your mind. Have your mind saturated with the truth.
We need deliverance from strongholds and wrong mindsets.
Living in the past is how many of us have hindered our breakthroughs.
It is Scriptural to record your dreams. This is important as it enables you to remember and to bear witness once something comes to pass. What God ministers may be for another generation and not you.
“All this,” said David, “the Lord made me understand in writing, by His hand upon me, all the works of these plans.”
1 Chronicles 28:19 (NKJV)
Now go, write it before them on a tablet, and note it on a scroll, that it may be for time to come, forever and ever.
Isaiah 30:8 (NKJV)
Now it came to pass in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, that this word came to Jeremiah from the Lord, saying: “Take a scroll of a book and write on it all the words that I have spoken to you against Israel, against Judah, and against all the nations, from the day I spoke to you, from the days of Josiah even to this day. It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the adversities which I purpose to bring upon them, that everyone may turn from his evil way, that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin.”
Jeremiah 36:1-3 (NKJV)
Then the Lord answered me and said: “Write the vision and make it plain on tablets, that he may run who reads it.
Habakkuk 2:2 (NKJV)
The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show His servants—things which must shortly take place. And He sent and signified it by His angel to His servant John, who bore witness to the word of God, and to the testimony of Jesus Christ, to all things that he saw.
Revelation 1:1-2 (NKJV)
We can carelessly handle the revelation of God.
God can speak to you but because of your rigidity, things don’t come to pass.
Recording dreams brings out certain details.
How Dreams Are Received
Every one has a spiritual antennae connected to your spirit man.
Your spiritual antennae can only function based on:
- Positioning
- Correct tuning
- Availability of supernatural airwaves/signals
For the spirits of prophets are subject to the prophets [the prophecy is under the speaker’s control, and he can stop speaking].
1 Corinthians 14:32 (AMP)
This applies to both dreams and visions.
The extent to which someone receives a dream or vision is subject to what they do with the dream or vision.
Your spiritual antennae can be hijacked by the underworld. Prayer fine tunes your spiritual antennae.
Any revelation that is of God must be fresh and spotlight on an aspect of God’s divine truth that He wants you to receive. This needs you to fast, pray and read the word. It also needs you to serve sacrificially and to walk right.
God imparts dreams and visions in your spirit man, not your mind. The condition of your spirit man is what will determine the extent of revelation that you will receive.
The state of your spirit man is determined by your conscience. Your conscience puts God’s agenda first and people first.
The state of your spirit man is determined by your communion with God.
The state of your spirit man is determined by your level of submission to God. The more submissive you are, the more your spirit man will be able to have spiritual revelation of God sown in your life.
Check the state of your spirit man.
But the wisdom from above is first pure [morally and spiritually undefiled], then peace-loving [courteous, considerate], gentle, reasonable [and willing to listen], full of compassion and good fruits. It is unwavering, without [self-righteous] hypocrisy [and self-serving guile].
James 3:17 (AMP)
Hindrances To Receiving Dreams Or Visions
God can withhold further revelation when:
1. He desires the dreamer to act.
If action is not taken, the value of the dream is not realized and further dreams are hindered.
2. When there is no peace in your spirit.
We must live in peace with God and men.
3. When we grieve the Holy Spirit.
Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.
Ephesians 4:29-32 (NKJV)
The Holy Spirit withdraws from us when He is grieved.
4. When revelation is not planted in the right place.
e.g. Going to bed in anger.
5. Living a prideful life.
God will resist you and not give you revelation.
6. When you abuse substances.
E.g. Drugs and medication.
The mind will process the dream that you have received.
With a carnal mind, you cannot understand revelation.
When dreams and visions are planted in our spirits, our minds are bypassed so that any aspect of your emotional capacity, ambitions and goals is put in check.
The dynamics of translating a dream from you spirit to your mind is facilitated by faith. The word of God is the word of faith. Without faith, every revelation you receive will be inactive and in the spirit.
Where there is peace, there will be an elucidation on what God is saying.
Without faith, anything that is transmitted by your spirit man will remain fragmented.
Without the Holy Spirit, you will not experience liberty.
Types Of Dreamers
There are 3 types of dreamers:
1. High Volume Dreamers
Your lifestyle is a lifestyle of dreams.
2. Medium Volume Dreamers
3. No Dreamers
Dreams are given according to the sovereign will of God.
You may have a season where you dream a lot and others where you do not. This is characterized by:
- Peace
- God wants to use other means and circumstances to speak to you – Allow yourself to be heightened spiritually.
- Inner assurance – you don’t suffer from fear or emptiness.
- Lack of anxiety or frustrations
Your dreams may stop if God wants you to go back to certain fundamentals such as prayer or study of Scripture.
The Word of God is important because it give you wisdom and light. It will sharpen your imagination and heighten your ability to see in the spirit.
God is calling us to be true worshippers. If worship is not part and parcel of your life, then your dreams are in vain. Worship brings in the glory of God’s presence in your life. It dispels every cloud of darkness in your life. It unlocks the heavens.
When people manipulate or mishandle the revelation of God, He seals His revelation.
