The Eternal Wisdom Of God – Part 2: Sermon By Bishop Gobanga
Does not wisdom cry out, and understanding lift up her voice? She takes her stand on the top of the high hill, beside the way, where the paths meet. She cries out by the gates, at the entry of the city, at the entrance of the doors: “To you, O men, I call, and my voice is to the sons of men. O you simple ones, understand prudence, and you fools, be of an understanding heart. Listen, for I will speak of excellent things, and from the opening of my lips will come right things. For my mouth will speak truth; wickedness is an abomination to my lips. All the words of my mouth are with righteousness. Nothing crooked or perverse is in them. They are all plain to him who understands, and right to those who find knowledge. Receive my instruction, and not silver, and knowledge rather than choice gold. For wisdom is better than rubies, and all the things one may desire cannot be compared with her.
“I, wisdom, dwell with prudence, and find out knowledge and discretion. The fear of the Lord is to hate evil. Pride and arrogance and the evil way and the perverse mouth I hate. Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom. I am understanding, I have strength. By me kings reign, and rulers decree justice. By me princes rule, and nobles, all the judges of the earth. I love those who love me, and those who seek me diligently will find me. Riches and honor are with me, enduring riches and righteousness. My fruit is better than gold, yes, than fine gold, and my revenue than choice silver. I traverse the way of righteousness, in the midst of the paths of justice, that I may cause those who love me to inherit wealth, that I may fill their treasuries.
“The Lord possessed me at the beginning of His way, before His works of old. I have been established from everlasting, from the beginning, before there was ever an earth. When there were no depths I was brought forth, when there were no fountains abounding with water. Before the mountains were settled, before the hills, I was brought forth. While as yet He had not made the earth or the fields, or the primal dust of the world. When He prepared the heavens, I was there, when He drew a circle on the face of the deep, when He established the clouds above, when He strengthened the fountains of the deep, when He assigned to the sea its limit, so that the waters would not transgress His command, when He marked out the foundations of the earth, then I was beside Him as a master craftsman; and I was daily His delight, rejoicing always before Him, rejoicing in His inhabited world, and my delight was with the sons of men.
“Now therefore, listen to me, my children, for blessed are those who keep my ways. Hear instruction and be wise, and do not disdain it. Blessed is the man who listens to me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors. For whoever finds me finds life, and obtains favor from the Lord. But he who sins against me wrongs his own soul; all those who hate me love death.”
Proverbs 8 (NKJV)
Wisdom selects the most suitable possibility out of all possibilities. The ideal possibility has to be in concord with Divine nature.
Wisdom has a lot to do with perpetuating the purpose of God. Wisdom is the insight into the nature of things. There are things about the nature of an individual, church, company, etc that you need insight to so as to have the right perception of them. To understand the church, you need to seek God. To know people, you need to sit down with people and know where they are coming from. We need to trust God for insight to understand people and not pass judgment on them. This comes from inquiry in God.
We get to know people via wisdom not based on what we see. Wisdom is an insight into the reality of things. Everyone of us has a reality. Unless you touch base with reality, you can never know something. The reality is the substance of an individual that defines an individual. You can only know someone in the place of a relationship.
Rules can never transform anybody. God never ordained the law to bring transformation. The law was a tutor to point us to Christ. Only in the place of relationship can anyone be transformed. Not with do’s and don’ts.
When the Bible is approached as a law, it will not transform anyone. It takes relationship for impartation to occur.
To bring about transformation, create an environment of relationship, fellowship and communion. This is what Jesus did. He fellowshipped with sinners e.g. Jesus used wisdom to sort out the issue with the Samaritan woman.
Wisdom is the knowledge of the significance of things. It is the knowledge of the relationship of things on earth. Only wisdom can change this country. It will need us to go back and correct wrong things done in the past.
When God created everything, He ensured that there was connectivity between the spirit world and the natural world. A lot that is wrong here on earth, even with man, is because of a disconnect between the spirit world and natural world. There is a relationship between inanimate and animate objects on earth.
God wants us to know how to relate with things and how to use it. Wisdom is what allows you to connect to people that are different from you in diversity.
The wisdom of God works hand in hand with a corresponding grace. This is why we shouldn’t strive to be the same and copy each other in the Kingdom and marketplace.
Wisdom is knowing how to deal with situations. It is knowing what is appropriate, not just what is good. Another level of wisdom is knowing that not everything that is appropriate is perfect. Perfected things in the will of God are what stand the test of time.
Divine wisdom has the ability to preserve you. It is by wisdom that kings rule. Wisdom is knowing what the present moment demands. God desires us to discern times and seasons to know what is the best thing to apply in your time and season.
The Lord possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old. I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was.
Proverbs 8:22-23 (NKJV)
Before everything came into place, there was wisdom. Out of the fullness of wisdom (Christ), God created the earth.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
John 1:1 (NKJV)
The written word of God (wisdom) is supposed to be seen as the element of the very person of God for the sake of human beings (John 1:1) If you want to touch base with the person of God, touch base with wisdom. God relies on wisdom to be able to exist.
Proverbs 8 – Solomon personifies wisdom that finds expression in human or created form. It is by wisdom that God created the world.
If you look through the New Testament, you will see that Jesus is the wisdom by which God accomplishes His purpose. Darkness and light are the same to God. Darkness facilitates God’s purposes. This is why all things work together for good. Suffering births character. God can let suffering to prolong to deal with every manner of carnality in man.
God sanctifies things in wisdom. He acts in wisdom. This is why He requires us to apply wisdom. To tap into the wisdom of God, be a relator.
It is in the context of relationship that the fullness of God is experienced.
That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; that Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; and to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God. Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.
Ephesians 3:16-21 (KJV)
Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.
Ephesians 5:21 (KJV)
To be better, relate with all people without bias. No one is all in all. We need each other. You will never attain to certain aspects of growth unless you relate with others. Some of the most unpleasant people that you will meet are the people you will need the most in your life. This is why the word of God tells us to submit one to another because sometimes wisdom will lead you to places that you do not want.
There is the uncreated wisdom (personified in Christ) and the wisdom of God in created form. Back in eternity, God had the option to not create you and I. He was not under any power or influence to create us. God vested in man various aspects of His nature so that man created in His image and nature can serve His purposes. The omniscience of God foresaw every influence and experience that we would go through. He pre-arranged you and I to be able to contribute to His purposed result. This is why nothing is by accident. It is according to Divine wisdom.
Suffering has a divine purpose. Jesus suffered on the Cross to free us.
God wants us to be contributors of His wisdom, knowledge, riches in glory and unsearchable judgments. We have a role to play. God used wisdom as an instrument of creation (Proverbs 8:22).
The wisdom of God is divine and not comparable to earthly wisdom.
Jesus in His human form is the human expression of the wisdom of God. He came to set an example for us so we can know that it is possible to conquer sin and death. Everything you desire of God is found in Christ in the flesh.
It is from Jesus’ human nature that existed in eternity that all of humanity was created after. This is the only nature that we are able to identify with. The nature of God and the nature of man cannot be separated. There may be a distinction but in Christ there is no division. Jesus in the flesh is everything that God wants us to be as we aspire to walk in holiness. Jesus has a human nature even in eternity.
God did not create the Holy Spirit because the Holy Spirit is God. In the same way, God never created wisdom.
It is wrong for us to create divisions in terms of ethnicity, race, denominations and any lines of division. In Christ, there are no separations. We are all the same as human beings. The nature of God and man in Jesus Christ cannot be separated. This is the mistake that theologians make.
An easy way to get delivered is by staying with people who vex you and people you don’t like. This is a hard truth. Jesus is the wisdom that God fashioned for humanity’s sake before the foundations of the world were laid.
The early church fell into a pitfall of division between who were followers of Paul and Peter. We are all followers of Christ.
For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.
Romans 10:12 (KJV)
There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.
Galatians 3:28 (KJV)
Jesus is the wisdom that has been revealed in human form for the sake of you and I. Jesus has been embedded in God’s creative processes.
Eternal wisdom had to take in the necessity of time, space, energy and matter. This is why every problem is a wisdom problem. In Christ Jesus are hidden the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
God never chose you individually. He chose you as a group. You cannot exist as a singular individual without a group.
God’s choice for humanity was never singular but plural. The wisdom God has for us is to tap into the corporate factor. The church is a living organism. The more we are one, the more we will find fulfillment in individuality.
For in Him we live and move and have our being; as even some of your [own] poets have said, For we are also His offspring.
