The Most Excellent Way: Sermon By Rev. Daniel Kamau
For I want you to know how great is my solicitude for you [how severe an inward struggle I am engaged in for you] and for those [believers] at Laodicea, and for all who [like yourselves] have never seen my face and known me personally. [For my concern is] that their hearts may be braced (comforted, cheered, and encouraged) as they are knit together in love, that they may come to have all the abounding wealth and blessings of assured conviction of understanding, and that they may become progressively more intimately acquainted with and may know more definitely and accurately and thoroughly that mystic secret of God, [which is] Christ (the Anointed One).
In Him all the treasures of [divine] wisdom (comprehensive insight into the ways and purposes of God) and [all the riches of spiritual] knowledge and enlightenment are stored up and lie hidden. I say this in order that no one may mislead and delude you by plausible and persuasive and attractive arguments and beguiling speech. For though I am away from you in body, yet I am with you in spirit, delighted at the sight of your [standing shoulder to shoulder in such] orderly array and the firmness and the solid front and steadfastness of your faith in Christ [that leaning of the entire human personality on Him in absolute trust and confidence in His power, wisdom, and goodness].
As you have therefore received Christ, [even] Jesus the Lord, [so] walk (regulate your lives and conduct yourselves) in union with and conformity to Him. Have the roots [of your being] firmly and deeply planted [in Him, fixed and founded in Him], being continually built up in Him, becoming increasingly more confirmed and established in the faith, just as you were taught, and abounding and overflowing in it with thanksgiving. See to it that no one carries you off as spoil or makes you yourselves captive by his so-called philosophy and intellectualism and vain deceit (idle fancies and plain nonsense), following human tradition (men’s ideas of the material rather than the spiritual world), just crude notions following the rudimentary and elemental teachings of the universe and disregarding [the teachings of] Christ (the Messiah).
For in Him the whole fullness of Deity (the Godhead) continues to dwell in bodily form [giving complete expression of the divine nature]. And you are in Him, made full and having come to fullness of life [in Christ you too are filled with the Godhead–Father, Son and Holy Spirit–and reach full spiritual stature]. And He is the Head of all rule and authority [of every angelic principality and power]. In Him also you were circumcised with a circumcision not made with hands, but in a [spiritual] circumcision [performed by] Christ by stripping off the body of the flesh (the whole corrupt, carnal nature with its passions and lusts).
Colossians 2:1-11 (AMP)
Saul had an encounter with Christ and was transformed.
When you encounter Christ, He makes you like Him.
Now you [collectively] are Christ’s body and [individually] you are members of it, each part severally and distinct [each with his own place and function]. So God has appointed some in the church [for His own use]: first apostles (special messengers); second prophets (inspired preachers and expounders); third teachers; then wonder-workers; then those with ability to heal the sick; helpers; administrators; [speakers in] different (unknown) tongues.
Are all apostles (special messengers)? Are all prophets (inspired interpreters of the will and purposes of God)? Are all teachers? Do all have the power of performing miracles? Do all possess extraordinary powers of healing? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret? But earnestly desire and zealously cultivate the greatest and best gifts and graces (the higher gifts and the choicest graces). And yet I will show you a still more excellent way [one that is better by far and the highest of them all–love].
If I [can] speak in the tongues of men and [even] of angels, but have not love (that reasoning, intentional, spiritual devotion such as is inspired by God’s love for and in us), I am only a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers (the gift of interpreting the divine will and purpose), and understand all the secret truths and mysteries and possess all knowledge, and if I have [sufficient] faith so that I can remove mountains, but have not love (God’s love in me) I am nothing (a useless nobody). Even if I dole out all that I have [to the poor in providing] food, and if I surrender my body to be burned or in order that I may glory, but have not love (God’s love in me), I gain nothing.
1 Corinthians 12:27 – 1 Corinthians 13:1-3 (AMP)
Without God, man cannot attain to the depths, heights and widths of his destiny. We desperately need God to be fulfilled and to function.
If we preach the Gospel and teach it but lack love, we will become a spooky and mysterious people. This is why Satan fails miserably. It’s because he lacks the divine nature of God.
We need to preach the Gospel to impact people and generations with love.
Because we have been created in the image and likeness of God, we have a mind, heart and will like He does.
For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways, says the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts.
Isaiah 55:8-9 (AMP)
God invites us to embrace His mind and high thoughts.
For who has known or understood the mind (the counsels and purposes) of the Lord so as to guide and instruct Him and give Him knowledge? But we have the mind of Christ (the Messiah) and do hold the thoughts (feelings and purposes) of His heart.
1 Corinthians 2:16 (AMP)
The mind is the receptacle of truth. But if we don’t let the words God speaks transform our minds and go to our hearts, we are missing it.
Once you encounter the Lord, the first thing you encounter is His word.
The first education of a son is sight. We need our eyes to be opened.
The word of God illuminates your being and gives you strength. The word of God discerns thoughts. It is living and active. The word installs strength and courage in the course of your dominion.
When you get a prophetic word, it matches your identity.
Choose to feed your faith and starve your fears.
It takes an altar to get fresh bread.
For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth to show Himself strong in behalf of those whose hearts are blameless toward Him. You have done foolishly in this; therefore, from now on you shall have wars.
2 Chronicles 16:9 (AMP)
But now your kingdom shall not continue; the Lord has sought out [David] a man after His own heart, and the Lord has commanded him to be prince and ruler over His people, because you have not kept what the Lord commanded you.
1 Samuel 13:14 (AMP)
The Lord looks for a heart that is aligned to Him. The heart is where we interact and have communion with God.
And when He had deposed him, He raised up David to be their king; of him He bore witness and said, I have found David son of Jesse a man after My own heart, who will do all My will and carry out My program fully. [I Sam. 13:14; Ps. 89:20; Isa. 44:28.]
Acts 13:22 (AMP)
Dominion is because God has a program and purpose.
How is your heart concerning the things of God? Are you hardened and is the soil of your heart rocky or thorny that is unable to yield fruit?
The word becomes fire in your bones and strengthens your inner man.
If you were to manifest in your gate of society as God intended with your heart misaligned to God’s, you will be unfruitful, ineffectual and stagnate.
In every prophetic word that proceeds from the mouth of God is a nature that causes man to grow.
When God speaks to you, He uses His great and exceeding promises to cause you to partake of a subset of God’s divine nature.
For His divine power has bestowed upon us all things that [are requisite and suited] to life and godliness, through the [full, personal] knowledge of Him Who called us by and to His own glory and excellence (virtue). By means of these He has bestowed on us His precious and exceedingly great promises, so that through them you may escape [by flight] from the moral decay (rottenness and corruption) that is in the world because of covetousness (lust and greed), and become sharers (partakers) of the divine nature.
For this very reason, adding your diligence [to the divine promises], employ every effort in exercising your faith to develop virtue (excellence, resolution, Christian energy), and in [exercising] virtue [develop] knowledge (intelligence), And in [exercising] knowledge [develop] self-control, and in [exercising] self-control [develop] steadfastness (patience, endurance), and in [exercising] steadfastness [develop] godliness (piety), and in [exercising] godliness [develop] brotherly affection, and in [exercising] brotherly affection [develop] Christian love. For as these qualities are yours and increasingly abound in you, they will keep [you] from being idle or unfruitful unto the [full personal] knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One).
2 Peter 1:3-8 AMP
The first thing we escape when we see the promises of God is corruption.
Every shaking (in the Body of Christ, school, homes, workplace) carries the pangs of God’s desire to impart His nature.
Agape love refers to that which sees the infinitely precious in the object of the being.
There is eternity that is hidden in the heart of man.
Prophetic word is not end all be all. There is a nature of God resident in every word He speaks.
God desires our company, fellowship and communion.
Place a demand as you commune with God like the lady Prophet Elisha instructed to go borrow vessels (2 Kings 4:1-7).
Pursuit is the proof of desire.
Manifestation as a son of God needs an impartation of the nature of God.
Miracles cease. Sermons will end. But friendship with God is unending.
God’s nature imparts capacity. Even Scripture tells us that we will function like a thousand men. This is the nature God is calling us to (Ephesians 4:8-16).
If you want to walk in levels of power in God, fellowship and commune with Him.
When we lose our first love, we lose the most excellent way (Revelation 2).
Love is the watermark that shows that we are disciples of God.
Such hope never disappoints or deludes or shames us, for God’s love has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit Who has been given to us.
Romans 5:5 (AMP)
The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed and qualified me to preach the Gospel of good tidings to the meek, the poor, and afflicted; He has sent me to bind up and heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the [physical and spiritual] captives and the opening of the prison and of the eyes to those who are bound, to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord [the year of His favor] and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, to grant [consolation and joy] to those who mourn in Zion-to give them an ornament (a garland or diadem) of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, the garment [expressive] of praise instead of a heavy, burdened, and failing spirit-that they may be called oaks of righteousness [lofty, strong, and magnificent, distinguished for uprightness, justice, and right standing with God], the planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified. And they shall rebuild the ancient ruins; they shall raise up the former desolations and renew the ruined cities, the devastations of many generations.”
Isaiah 61:1-4 (AMP)
God is calling us to a generational work but He first desires to install a nature in us.
And their offspring shall be known among the nations and their descendants among the peoples. All who see them [in their prosperity] will recognize and acknowledge that they are the people whom the Lord has blessed.
Isaiah 61:9 (AMP)
When we manifest as sons in the gates of society, we will impact our city, our country and the world.
It must start working at home (and in our lives) before it is exported elsewhere.
