What to do in your Season of Waiting
Have you ever been in a situation where God has given you a word of promise and you are waiting for it to be fulfilled? In this place we experience a great deal of emotions including anxiety, fear, doubt and even trying to imagine how the Lord will do it. I remember early 2017 when I was sleeping on my friends couch for six months and the Lord told me I needed to move to my own place. I wasn’t very comfortable with the instruction because I was okay with where I was.
But the need to move was so great, and I could really tell that God had something in store but it would only happen if I moved. In that time I experienced a lot of doubt and anxiety. I even tried to Imagine how the Lord would do it, the kind of miracle he would perform because I really needed one. I was waiting on God to perform His word yet I was not trusting and believing that He could do so.
What should I have been doing in that time? Instead of building up thoughts of doubt and unbelief I should have been at the place of worship. Worship connects us to the heart of God, it calms us down and brings to remembrance the word of God. If you are in a season of waiting surround yourself with worship. It is also an effective weapon against the enemy because he will try and fill your mind with negative thoughts to ensure that you don’t get that which already belongs to you.
In your season of waiting,be expectant of what the Lord has said He will do because He will be sure to perform it.
11 so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.
Isaiah 55:11 NIV
One way to show that you are expectant is to decree over your life that which your heavenly father has already said you shall be or you shall have. It may seem foolish to decree a year of abundance when you barely have a coin in your pocket but is a show of faith. It’s saying I am not letting my circumstances rule me, am allowing God’s word to have the final say in my life.
A lot of the times the prophetic word over your life does not take root because just like a seed it has to be nurtured to maturity. We get excited once we get the word forgetting that there is a process. It is like a seed planted in a woman’s womb, there are trimesters, clinic appointments and first time mum jitters until you deliver your promise.
This means that you need to take care of yourself, when a woman discovers that she is pregnant she has to stop eating certain foods and she begins to adopt a new diet. She handles herself with great care. In the same way when a word is spoken over your life begin to ask God what is it that I need to change and what new adjustments need to be made to ensure that the word is fulfilled.
Any word that God speaks over your life is meant to edify, transform and change you. He doesn’t waste words or speak them in vain. God’s word comes equipped with the tools necessary to make the shift required in your life but only if you allow Him to.
16 Every Scripture is God-breathed (given by His inspiration) and profitable for instruction, for reproof and conviction of sin, for correction of error and discipline in obedience, [and] for training in righteousness (in holy living, in conformity to God’s will in thought, purpose, and action),
17 So that the man of God may be complete and proficient, well fitted and thoroughly equipped for every good work.
1 Timothy 3:16-17 AMPC
In your season of waiting, focus on God’s word and stand on His promises, refuse to abort your promise and see what the Lord can do!
